Portrayed by Robin Mattson upon her debut in September 2003, Sugar was a pivotal figure in The Bold and the Beautiful storyline nearly two decades ago. As a former prison warden, Sugar played a significant role in aiding Sheila Carter's escape, subsequently becoming involved in the kidnapping of Ridge Forrester for ransom.
She later resurfaced as Sheila's lookalike, trying to stab Scotty Grainger, and was subsequently arrested. Notably, when Sugar later made an appearance on The Young and the Restless, she was portrayed by Kimberlin Brown, the same actress playing Sheila Carter, adding complexity to the character's portrayal across the sister soap operas.
Who was Sugar on The Bold and the Beautiful?
Sugar served as a gullible prison warden before aiding Sheila Carter in her escape and the subsequent kidnapping of Ridge Forrester for ransom. Nick Marone's attempt to rescue his brother led to his capture, and despite his flirtatious efforts to persuade Sugar to release them, they remained imprisoned.
Sugar desired to take the money they already had from Massimo Marone, while Sheila demanded more for Massimo’s baby. When Brooke Logan intervened to rescue the captives, Sugar assisted Sheila in subduing her.
However, Nick managed to charm Sugar and discreetly obtain the key, which he passed to Brooke and Ridge, enabling their escape. As authorities arrived, a fire erupted in the foundry, allowing Sheila and Sugar to escape with the baby, Diana Carter.
How did Sugar become Sheila’s doppelganger?
It was later revealed that Sheila had deceived Sugar into undergoing plastic surgery in Genoa City to resemble her. Sheila then framed Sugar to take the fall for her crimes, resulting in Sugar being imprisoned in her place.
This explains why Kimberlin Brown was able to play both roles simultaneously in both The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless.
Reappearances and the current storyline on The Bold and the Beautiful
Sheila resurfaced in Genoa City in 2006 and began to torment Lauren Fenmore. However, after Sheila attacked Scotty Grainger with a knife and was arrested, Lauren visited her in prison seeking answers.
That’s when she discovered that the woman behind bars was Sugar. The latter then went on to reveal that she targeted Scotty for revenge because he was indirectly responsible for Sheila's previous actions against her.
Earlier this year on The Bold and the Beautiful storyline, Sheila appeared to be undergoing a positive transformation. Thus, it was unexpected when she broke into Steffy Forrester’s, portrayed by Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, home to kill her. However, Steffy managed to overpower Sheila and, in the ensuing struggle, fatally stabbed her.
During the cremation process, Deacon Sharpe, played by Sean Kanan, noticed that the corpse had all ten toes, contradicting Sheila's previous plan to fake her death by cutting off one of her toes in 2022. This led Deacon to suspect that Sheila might still be alive.
Upon examining Sheila’s phone, Deacon discovered angry texts exchanged between her and Sugar, prompting him to wonder if Sugar was the mysterious individual from Sheila's past whom she had been meeting with before her supposed demise.
