Van Hansis returns to daytime television as he will play Lucas Jones on General Hospital. Hansis boasts of a long tenure as Luke Snyder on As The World Turns from 2005 to 2010. The timing marks a 14-year absence, but he still longs to return to the soap world and mold the direction of the Lucas character with the rich connections throughout the General Hospital story.

For Hansis, there's another gay character to play on the soap opera. These are diverse times, considering he is back at playing his first gay lead on the series as Luke Snyder. Now, shows like General Hospital have more LGBTQ+ characters in a natural, day-to-day way, which Hansis found refreshing. Fans will look forward to seeing his new role when he debuts on October 4, 2024.

All about Van Hansis on General Hospital

Born on September 25, 1981, in North Adams, Massachusetts, Van Hansis is an actor known for his role as Luke Snyder on the soap opera As the World Turns. No TV was present in his childhood since his family raised him on a mountain. Later, they moved to Greenfield when his mother became the principal of a local school.

He attended Walnut Hill, a performing arts boarding school in Natick, Massachusetts, and graduated with a BFA in Acting from Carnegie Mellon University. Among his first fortunes, he auditioned for the reality show I Wanna Be a Soap Star; although he didn't make the cut for the show, he landed the role of Luke on As the World Turns soon after.

Following the news, Hansis' stock continues to rise. After more than 14 years of being away from soaps, Hansis will return to soap operas by taking the role of Lucas Jones in General Hospital. On-screen enthusiasts are already excited about how he will redeem Lucas, knowing that he has already proved himself in complex roles as someone who is a part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Why is Van Hansis cast as Lucas Jones?

General Hospital decided to recast the character of Lucas Jones, and Van Hansis was selected for the role. Lucas is an adopted son of Bobbie Spencer, . He was previously portrayed by Ryan Carnes and is a big part of the show's history.

He has developed a talent in acting for the soap plays, and his experience has also helped him portray LGBTQ+ roles in daytime dramas. His role as Luke Snyder in As The World Turns makes him represent a significant character profile, which will work well for him in playing Lucas Jones, a gay character.

In an interview with TV Insider, Hansis expressed his excitement about returning to soaps and taking on the role of Lucas. He said:

"I love that Lucas is not the only gay character on the show. I remember when Luke and Noah kissed [on As the World Turns] for the first time, we had Entertainment Tonight come."

He further added:

"And I get it, but it's great that we're in a place where it's so casual, just like how it is in life. There are gay people in life, so there should be gay people on soaps and queer people and trans people and all of that. So, the fact that it's so ingrained and it's not like 'the gay character' or 'the gay storyline' feels really nice."
