"Who will Sonny pick to take over?": Sonny's mob successor sparks General Hospital fan debate

Sonny Corinthos, portrayed by Maurice Benard, was introduced on General Hospital on August 13, 1993. He was introduced as the owner of the Paradise Lounge, a strip club involved in illegal activities. Sonny became a central figure in the show and became the most powerful mob boss in Port Charles.

On Christmas Eve, 2024, Sonny Corinthos experienced chest pain during festivities. A while later, on December 30, he collapsed at the gym, and Dr. Isaiah Gannon helped him.

Sonny confided in Jason Morgan and revealed that he had been experiencing symptoms for months. Jason insisted that Sonny see a cardiologist.

On January 3, 2025, Sonny admitted to Jason that the health scare was a wake-up call. Jason offered to temporarily manage the business to allow Sonny time to recover but clarified he couldn't take on the role long-term.

This incident left fans wondering who would Sonny choose to be his successor and there have been discussions regarding the same on social media since then.

Jason agreed to be second in command but can’t take first. Who will Sonny pick to take over? Guesses anyone?

A fan, Priscilla Massey-Conley, posted a question on a General Hospital Facebook page asking who Sonny would pick to take over now that Jason has agreed to temporarily take over. The post received several comments mentioning different characters that Sonny would choose to take over.

Many fans commented that Sonny would choose Kristina Davis as his successor. They eliminated Micheal Cornithos, portrayed by Chad Duell, as a potential option after Duell announced that he was exiting the soap.

While many fans said it would be Kristina, some fans said she wouldn't be the best option. They commented that she wouldn't be able to run a business as she acted impulsively.

Other comments mentioned various characters such as Brick, Lucky Spencer, and Carly Cornithos. But a fan named Mary Elizabeth Judge pointed out that Brick wouldn't be the successor as he is portrayed by Stephen A Smith, who has commitments to work with ESPN.

The majority of fans seem to be leaning towards Kristina as the most potential success followed by Brick. However, the debate between the fans would only be settled when the soap reveals the successor as the plot progresses.

Recent developments on General Hospital

In Prague, Lulu Spencer yells at Dante Falconeri for following her, accusing him of ruining her chance to regain Charlotte’s trust. Dante says he was looking out for her, but Lulu insists she doesn’t need his help.

Dante warns her about Valentin Cassadine, claiming he hasn’t changed and pointing out a sniper followed her. Lulu argues she left to bring Charlotte home, but Dante accuses her of putting Charlotte and herself in danger.

In a parked car, Charlotte Cassadine asks Valentin Cassadine if he’s hurt, fearing it’s her fault. He assures her it’s not and admits he’s made her a fugitive. Valentin acknowledges she needs to see her mother and offers to send her back to Port Charles. Charlotte decides to stay with Valentin, saying he has no one else.

In Michael Cornithos’s office, he tells Sasha Gilmore he’ll respect her decision to raise the baby alone but asks her to stay in Port Charles for a safe and stable life with family support.

Sasha worries about the impact on his marriage to Willow and her role with the Quartermaines. Michael offers help and reassures her. Sasha agrees to stay and thanks Michael, saying if she had to get accidentally pregnant, she’s glad it’s with him.
