Why did Hunter Tylo leave The Bold and the Beautiful? Explained

Hunter Tylo originated the character of Dr. Taylor Hayes on The Bold and the Beautiful. The actor introduced Taylor to the soap's audience in 1990 and intermittently reprised the role till 2019. Tylo was not seen on The Bold and the Beautiful after that, and Krista Allen stepped in to portray the character. After Allen's exit from the show, Rebecca Budig joined the cast in 2024 and is currently playing the character.

One of the popular long-running American daily soaps, The Bold and the Beautiful, premiered in 1987 and has revolved around the Forrester family and its rivalries and alliances. Hunter Tylo was part of The Bold and the Beautiful cast intermittently but as a regular, covering the span of a few years of her contract. Initially, she was seen actively in the storyline between 1990 and 2002. She left in 2002 as her contract expired to take care of her daughter, who was suffering from retinoblastoma, a type of eye cancer.

She rejoined the soap in 2004, as her character, Taylor, was found alive but held captive by a Moroccan prince. This time she again left after a decade on the show, in 2014. She announced her decision to depart in 2013 after two of the show's iconic actors, Ron Moss and Susan Flannery, exited the soap in 2012.

While Tylo had expected a more focused role after Susan's exit, producer Brad Bell shifted the storyline's focus to Brooke as the central figure. This disappointed Tylo, as she told French magazine Télé Star in an interview in 2013, prompting her decision to not renew her contract.

She rejoined in 2014 as a recurring cast member and continued to appear on the show till 2019. As per the soap's storyline, Tylo's Taylor left for her missionary work abroad and only visited LA occasionally to meet her children, Steffy and Thomas, and her grandchildren.

The soap's fans were surprised to learn that Krista Allen was signed on to reprise Taylor's character after Tylo played the character for almost three decades since 1990. They wanted to know why Tylo was not signed back.

As per Entertainment Weekly, Tylo was offered the role again after her 2019 exit. However, she turned it down, possibly for the same reasons that she left the show in 2013. After she refused to rejoin, Krista Allen was approached to play Taylor. Allen's Taylor started appearing in 2021 and remained till 2023.

Tylo, who turned 62 in July 2024, faced many tragedies in her personal life. Besides losing her son Michael in 2007, she also lost her former husband, actor Michael Tylo, in 2021.

While Tylo is not likely to return to The Bold and the Beautiful, Rebecca Budig portrays Taylor Hayes in the soap currently. Budig's Taylor was poised to restart the Taylor-Brooke feud at a bigger scale, with their daughters competing for attention from the same man. However, in a turn of events, she is battling health issues.
