Martin Grey left General Hospital in February 2024. After handling significant storylines and representing important clients, Martin unexpectedly departed from Port Charles, leaving fans wondering about his whereabouts. As per Soap Opera Digest, his exit was meant to be temporary, but changes behind the scenes made his return uncertain, leaving his character's future on the show unclear.

Martin left the town after discovering that his girlfriend, Lucy Coe, betrayed him with her ex-boyfriend, Scotty Baldwin. After learning about their secret, Martin ended his relationship with Lucy and chose to leave Port Charles. This was when Knight, the actor playing Martin, took a break from the show.


Why was Michael E. Knight’s exit from General Hospital extended?

Michael E. Knight, the actor who plays Martin Grey on General Hospital, revealed the reason for his extended exit from the show in a Soap Opera Digest interview published on September 16, 2024.

The actor mentioned that his exit "was planned to last three months," but it was extended because of the changes in the writing team of General Hospital.

However, Martin Grey is back on General Hospital, as revealed in the episode that aired on September 18, 2024.

Now that Knight is reprising his role as Martin Grey, he’s excited about the character’s future on the show. Although he did not reveal the specifics of storylines involved in Martin’s return, he still hinted that the character’s return would be crucial on General Hospital.

"It’s kind of like paprika. You don’t use it a lot but you use it to sort of spice things up," said Knight.

Who is Michael E. Knight on General Hospital?

Michael Edward Knight is an American actor born on May 7, 1959, in Princeton, New Jersey. The 65-year-old actor studied at The Thacher School in Ojai, California, and he graduated from Wesleyan University in 1980, a year before the scheduled graduation.

The actor married One Life to Live star Catherine Hickland on June 27, 1992, until their relationship split in 2006. Michael bagged his first big role as Tad Martin in All My Children in 1982, a role he continued until 2013. During this time, he also played Ted Orsini on the show from 1993 to 1994.

He is also known for his role as David Steadman in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2001) in the episode Redemption and his recurring role as Simon Neville in The Young and the Restless from 2015 to 2016

Michael Edward Knight has received three Daytime Emmy Awards, twice for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 1986 and 1987, and once in 2001 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
