General Hospital: Current plot dynamics of Carly Spencer-Corinthos
In the 2024 General Hospital plot, Carly Corinthos found herself helping her former spouse, mobster Sonny Corinthos after he killed Special Agent John Cates. She lied about Sonny being with her at the time of Cates's death as instructed by their attorney, Diane Miller.
She was also upset when her daughter-in-law, Willow's affair with Drew Caine blew over in front of a house full of people. This left her worried about her son, Michael's well-being. She also predicted that Willow's mother, Nina Reeves, would plan to take Michael's children to her house, and tried to stop them.
However, when Michael fell victim to an explosion followed by fire at Sonny's penthouse, Carly was devastated. In an attempt to safeguard her incapacitated son, Carly asked attorney Diane to remove Michael's children from Willow's custody.
However, this backfired. Under Drew's guidance, Willow Corinthos used her position as Michael's healthcare proxy to bargain with Carly. She offered to allow Carly and Sonny to visit Michael's bedside in exchange for custody of her children. The situation escalated further as the Quartermaine matriarch, Tracy, refused to let the children leave the Q mansion, where they were staying.

Carly Corinthos is arranging for Michael's cosmetic surgery to remove burn scars, and he will need to stay in a clinic for a long time. This storyline was created to explain actor Chad Duell’s departure from GH. It’s unclear if Carly will go with Michael for the procedure, as she might stay in Port Charles to fight Willow, Drew, and Nina’s attempts to take sole custody of Michael and Willow’s children after their divorce.
