Suzanne Rogers debuted in Days of Our Lives in 1973 as Maggie Horton. She is the longest-serving actor on the American soap opera. Rogers has been playing the role for 51 years.
In 1984, Rogers left the show briefly to tend to her health. She was diagnosed with a rare disease called Myasthenia Gravis. Rogers returned to the soap after a year of hiatus to reprise her role as Maggie.
On the recommendation of Rogers, the soap's producers added a storyline for Maggie where she discovers that she has Myasthenia Gravis, to spread awareness among the public.

In 1984, after being diagnosed with the rare muscle disorder and autoimmune disease myasthenia gravis, Rogers took a hiatus from Days of Our Lives to focus on her health. The illness affected her facial muscles and the medicine she was taking to treat it was making her weak.
She also suffered from hair loss and a swollen face. This led to her temporarily leaving the soap after 11 years as the disease took a toll on her health. Rogers went into remission in 1995 and has remained in remission since.
Rogers left the soap in 1984 and returned after a year to reprise the role. During her hiatus, her character, Maggie Horton, was written off to go leave in New York after her divorce from her husband. When Rogers resumed filming, Maggie returned to Salem with Mickey and got married.
To spread awareness about the disease, Rogers suggested that showmakers should have Maggie Horton be diagnosed with myasthenia gravis too. Producer Betty Corday agreed and there was a storyline where Maggie learned that she was diagnosed with the disease and dealt with it.
In 2010, after Mickey's death, Maggie's character noticed some effects of the disease but learned that she was still in remission.

In 1973, Maggie Horton, portrayed by Suzanne Rogers, was introduced as a kind-hearted farm owner who was paralyzed due to a childhood accident.
Maggie met Mickey Horton when he stumbled on her farm as an amnesic lawyer. Maggie assumes that Mickey is Marty as he keeps referring to himself as Marty Hanson.
When the truth about Mickey's connection to the Horton family is revealed, she is shocked. To keep her relationship with Mickey intact, she gets surgery to regain the use of her legs.
However, she is unable to walk even after the surgery and Laura Horton tells her that the paralysis has become psychological, which she later recovers from.
In 1995, Maggie and Mickey get married after Mickey divorces Laura. Their marriage becomes one of the longest marriages on the soap and is central to Maggie's character development. They stayed together despite numerous challenges.
Maggie and Mickey adopted Melisha Anderson, Mickey's ex-lover Linda Patterson's daughter after Linda failed to show up for the court hearing.
Maggie and Mickey lost their adopted daughter, Janice when her birth mother Joanna Barnes took her away. Joanna also wins the custody of Janice. This leaves Maggie devasted and she is shown struggling with alcoholism.
In 1981, Maggie agreed to be the surrogate for an anonymous donor. It is later revealed that Dr.Evan Whyland is the donor. He comes to Salem and starts calling Maggie often. When Mickey learns about this, he and Maggie decide to raise the child as their own.
In 1981, Sarah Horton is born and Mickey and Maggie win the custody of Sarah.
Maggie and Mickey hit a roadblock in their marriage when he is kidnapped by Stefano DiMera. Maggie presumes him to be dead and develops a relationship with Don. However, Mickey escapes from captivity and reaches Salem at the same time Don and Maggie are confessing their love to each other.
Mickey has a heart attack hearing this and divorces Maggie in 1983. Maggie regretting her divorce, leaves Salem and goes to New York after breaking things off with Don.
Mickey and Maggie rekindle their love when he reaches her house after being accidentally shot by a gang. On February 14, 1985, Mickey and Maggie married again alongside Melissa and Pete Jennings.
In the 1990s, Maggie's entrepreneurial side was explored as she opened and managed restaurants such as Tuscany and Chez Rouge.
In 2003, Maggie was presumed to be dead after being attacked by the Salem Stalker. But it was later revealed that she was being held captive on the island of Melaswen along with other victims.
Maggie's marriage is again tested as Mickey has moved on with Bonnie Lockhart. With the help of Doug and Julie Williams, Maggie tries to win Mickey back and succeeds when Mickey learns that Bonnie is just using him for his money.
In 2010, Maggie is set to go on a cruise with Mickey but he unexpectedly dies of a heart attack. His memorial service took place on January 14, 2010. Maggie has a hard time dealing with his death and resorts to alcohol but chooses to stop herself.
In June 2010, Maggie is devasted when she finds that Alice Horton has died in her sleep. Maggie had a hard time dealing with this as two of her loved ones died within months of each other. She becomes the matriarch of the Horton Family after the death of Alice.
Later in the year, Maggie develops a bond with Victor Kirisakis, who is married to Vivian Alamain. An enraged Vivivan trapped Maggie in a crypt but Victor came to her rescue.
Victor divorced Vivian and started a relationship with Maggie. Though Maggie had a hard time accepting Victor's criminal past, she eventually accepted him and got married to him in November 2011.
Maggie continues to be supporting the Horton family as well as the Kirisakis Family.

Suzanne Rogers was born Suzanne Crumpler on July 9, 1943, in Colonial Heights, Virginia. She is known for her role as Maggie Horton on Days of Our Lives. Rogers changed her name to Suzanne Rogers after actor and dancer Ginger Rogers.
Rogers began her career as a dancer and performed in several Broadway Musicals including Coco and Follies.
