Did Cam Ward have any offers coming out of high school?

Contrary to the claim that Cam Ward “had no offers in either sport going into college,” the quarterback did have scholarship offers. Ward had scholarship offers from Incarnate Word and Texas Southern, according to 247 Sports. He eventually enrolled at Incarnate Word in 2020 where he played his freshman season as the starting quarterback.

He had an impressive freshman year, although interrupted by the COVID pandemic. Notwithstanding, he threw for 2,260 yards and 24 touchdowns in six games. He was awarded the Jerry Rice Award for the most outstanding freshman in the FCS.

However, before going on to play college football, he represented Columbia High School in West Columbia, Texas in football and basketball. As a senior, he completed 49 of 109 passes for 948 yards and eight touchdowns.

The same season, he also rushed for 107 yards in 29 carries, scoring five touchdowns. In basketball, he averaged 20.8 ppg, 4.6 rpg and 3.0 assists per game in his high school tenure.

Ward did not play basketball at the collegiate level. However, he has risen above the disappointment of having just two offers in high school. He transferred from Incarnate Word to Washington State, immediately becoming the Cougars’ starting quarterback. After two seasons at Washington State, he transferred again to Miami (FL).

Cam Ward entered the transfer portal after initially declaring for the NFL draft. He has been the starting quarterback for the undefeated Hurricanes this season.

Ward has completed 169 of 246 pass attempts for 2,538 yards and 24 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns in 35 carries, earning mentions in the Heisman Trophy conversation.
