The NFL conference championships kick off on Sunday. Four teams – the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commandors – will face each other. The victors will march off to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
Let's take a look at the high school careers of the Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.
Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels, a four-star recruit, played for Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California, and was the third-best quarterback in the Class of 2019. He clinched the seventh spot in California and was ranked 50th nationally by On3.
He played the first three seasons of his college football career with the Arizona State Sun Devils before playing his final two with the LSU Tigers, where he won the 2023 Heisman Trophy. The Washington Commanders drafted him at No. 2 in 2024.
According to Fox Sports, Daniels clinched the first spot in the top 10 best rookie QB seasons in NFL history, with a rookie record of 891 rushing yards in the regular season.
In a news conference on Wednesday, Daniels was asked about the significance of being the first rookie in the Super Bowl, should the Commanders win at Philadelphia.
“Man, I’m not even thinking that far. It would obviously be a blessing, but I’m just focused on how can I be better day by day," Daniels said.
Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts, a four-star recruit, from the Class of 2016 played for Channelview (Texas) High School. He was ranked 13th as a quarterback and the 25th spot in Texas. On a national level, he ranked 187th overall by On3.
He went on to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Oklahoma Sooners and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round in 2020.
Last weekend, Hurts sustained a knee injury during the third quarter of the Eagles' divisional-round win over the Los Angeles Rams. Philadelphia sportswriter John Foley has affirmed the participation of Hurts in the upcoming game against the Commanders.
" Jalen Hurts says he will play Sunday. Doesn't share any more info than that about his knee," Foley wrote.
