The New York hockey community is mourning the loss of Connor Kasin. The Massapequa High School player died after collapsing during a charity game at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage around 9 p.m. on Saturday. He reportedly lost consciousness during an intermission. Bystanders performed CPR on him, but he was pronounced dead when taken to hospital.

The son of Mary and Craig Kasin, Kasin started his skating journey from the time when he could walk. He played for the Long Island Sharks club team as a defenseman and was part of the Massapequa Chiefs' Class of 2025.

In a statement, Massapequa paid tribute to Kasin:

"It is heartbreaking to report that Connor did not survive. His passing is devastating to the Massapequa community, and we offer our deepest condolences to Connor's family and friends."

In an Instagram post, @Islanderslive paid homage to Connor Kasin.

The charity game was held for Sabrina Navaretta, a 19-year-old freshman who had died in a car accident last year. She was a freshman at the University of Delaware.

High school hockey player falls victim to gun violence

Colin Brown, a teen hockey player from St. Louis High School, died on Nov. 26 following a gunshot incident on Nov. 23. He was struck in the neck by a stray bullet on Interstate 55 near Loughborough at around 10:30 p.m., as reported by Firstalert4. Brown was riding home in his father's SUV after a CBC-Marquette hockey game at the Affton Ice Rink.

His father, Calvin Brown, a former law enforcement official, took him to the hospital in critical condition, but Brown succumbed to his injuries four days later.

Brown's family opened up about their tragic loss to First Alert 4:

"We just hope the silver lining from this senseless tragedy is that it gives someone else the chance at life. Colin was a helper and who wanted to be a doctor. So, in a small way his 'gifts of life' allow him to be the healer he was destined to be."

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police have issued a notification seeking information about the shooting. A fundraiser has been set to raise money to seek information about the culprit. With the raised donations, CrimeStoppers, an independent charity organization that reports criminal activity, is offering a $25,000 reward for the suspect involved in the shooting.
