Four-star tight end Mikkel Skinner has decommitted from Cincinnati's 2025 class. The blue-chip prospect hails from Riverside High School in South Carolina and played as running back and wide receiver. He led his team to the South Carolina AAAA state championship game.
Skinner committed to Scott Satterfield's Cincinnati on July 9 as he was drawn by the efforts of tight ends coach Josh Stepp. Also from South Carolina, Stepp built a strong connection with Skinner which played a significant role in his original decision.
However, the decommitment is a huge blow to Cincinnati’s 2025 class, which now has 15 commitments and ranks No. 62 nationally and No. 14 in the Big 12. Skinner was the highest-rated player in the Bearcats' class.
With Skinner’s departure, three-star recruit Kamaurri Smith remains the only TE in the class. The Bearcats have extended offers to multiple TE prospects including Elyiss Williams, Brock Schott, Andrew Olesh, Ethan Barbour, Tae'shaun Gelsey, Emaree Winston and Hollis Davidson.
Kentucky and South Carolina are trending for Mikkel Skinner's commitment
Last weekend, Mikkel Skinner took an official visit to Kentucky and witnessed the Wildcats' 31-6 loss to South Carolina. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Wildcats are heavily favored to land Skinner, with a 97.5% chance of securing his commitment. The program extended an offer to him on July 10.
Despite Kentucky's strong position, a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction tilted in South Carolina's favor. Skinner was present at the Gamecocks' season opener and will see them in action for the third consecutive weekend when they face LSU on Saturday.
Skinner has offers from Ohio State, Appalachian State, Charlotte, West Virginia, Florida and Liberty, among others.
Skinner is ranked by On3 as the No. 242 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 15 tight end in the 2025 class and the No. 7 recruit in South Carolina. ESPN has him as the nation's No. 277 overall prospect, the No. 12 tight end in the 2025 class and the No. 4 recruit in the state.
Mikkel Skinner is a multi-sport athlete, also playing basketball and competing in track.
