Four-star offensive lineman Max Buchanan, from Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida, announced his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes' 2025 class on Wednesday night. He chose the program over FSU, Clemson, UCF, Ole Miss and Penn State, among others.

Buchanan's first visit to Miami occurred just before the Rivals Camp in South Florida, where he earned the offensive lineman MVP award. Over the last few weeks, he undertook six official visits, including a recent visit on June 14, before ultimately finding a home in head coach Mario Cristobal's program.

Buchanan, listed as the No. 42 player in Florida for the class of 2025, is also the No. 19 interior lineman and the No. 281 overall player in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 71 player in Mississippi and the No. 38 overall player interior lineman.

Buchanan is Miami’s seventh four-star commit and the sixth pledge this month. His decision also marks the program's third offensive line commitment from the Central Florida area. Another interesting thing is that his playing style and highlights have drawn comparisons to Miami right tackle Francis Mauigoa.

The addition of Buchanan also marks Miami's 12th commit for the 2025 class. In just nine days, Miami has secured five new recruits, including three four-star commits: defensive back Amari Wallace, linebacker Ezekiel Marcelin and now Buchanan. The class is also headlined by four-star quarterback Luke Nickel, four-star tight end Luka Gilbert and four-star running back Girard Pringle, among others.

Max Buchanan saw his potential fit in Miami's offensive line

Receiving over 20 offers and visiting several programs, Max Buchanan placed extra focus on his official visits, seeking where he felt most comfortable. Florida State was a strong contender and even considered the favorite at one point, but Buchanan later chose Miami for its offensive strategy and coaching staff (via On3):

“I chose Miami for the coaching that I can receive at every position on the offensive line," Buchanan said.

The prospect's decision was also heavily influenced by the relationships he developed with the coaching staff, including Cristobal and the offensive line coaches. This camaraderie, along with a sense of priority had a major impact on Buchanan's choice:

"I definitely felt like I was the priority," Buchanan told Miami Rivals. "I love it. It definitely shows. I like how they built a relationship with them. I've talked to them about life.
"It's not just football. They love my game. They teach me about certain things here and there. I have a great connection with all of those coaches down there," he added.

Max Buchanan's high school career witnessed his talents as the starting left tackle for a Seminole team that reached the regional finals of Florida’s 4M playoffs. However, the Hurricanes recruited him as a versatile lineman capable of playing multiple positions.
