Texas Tech opened the 2024 season with a thrilling 52-51 win over Abilene Christian. While the season opener may have been a nail-biter, third-year coach Joey McGuire has clearly set the tone for the program’s future by focusing on recruiting top-tier talent, particularly from within Texas.

One of the latest prospects to emerge as Texas Tech’s choice is edge rusher Tobi Haastrup from Mayde Creek High School in Texas. On Wednesday, Brian Nance, the Red Raiders' director of player personnel, extended an offer to the recruit.

Haastrup shared the excitement on X, formerly known as Twitter, tagging Nance:

"After a Great Conversation with @BnanceTTU I am so excited and blessed to recieve my 4th Division 1 offer from Texas Tech. God bless Texas Tech #WreckEm."

Texas has already succeeded in this regard, with 17 players committed to the 2025 recruiting class. The class ranks No. 46 in the 247Sports composite ranking.

The cycle is headlined by wide receiver Tristian Gentry, interior offensive lineman Elias Gillen, quarterback Lloyd Jones, cornerback Deante Lindsay, offensive tackle Garin Maley and linebacker Brock Golwas, among others. McGuire has made it a priority to lock down homegrown talent, as 11 of these committed players are from Texas.

The Red Raiders aren't finished with their 2025 recruiting efforts, and the program's top targets for the 2025 class are three-star wide receivers Bryson Jones and Leyton Stone, along with three-star athlete Braylan McDonald. It also remains high on offensive tackle Ren Brown, quarterback Lloyd Jones, defensive lineman Perry Cole and offensive tackle Garin Maley.

Tobi Haastrup recruitment update

Tobi Haastrup’s recruitment journey has taken an exciting turn in the last few weeks. Despite being unranked, he has begun to catch the attention of college football programs across the country.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound edge rusher's first football offer came from Minot State University in July, but his recruitment really heated up in September when he received his first Division 1 offer from UTEP. Since then, he has earned offers from several big programs, including LSU, UTSA, Ole Miss, SMU, Illinois and Boise State.

While Texas Tech has been listed as “cool” in Haastrup’s recruitment, according to Inside the Red Raiders.

Haastrup’s senior season debut in the 2024 season opener has been incredible. In Mayde Creek’s 18-14 victory over Fort Bend Travis on Aug. 30, he recorded seven tackles, four sacks and two quarterback pressures.
