Grace Mbugua, a top prospect from the Class of 2025, committed to the Louisville Cardinals on Thursday. The 6-foot-5 forward from Danville Christian Academy, Kentucky, chose Jeff Walz’s Cardinals over the LSU Tigers and the Florida Gators. Mbugua had previously committed to the Liberty Flames but decided to reopen her recruitment in March.
Mbugua had offers from other universities, including Kentucky, Duke, NC State, Baylor and West Virginia. She made an official visit to Louisville last weekend and made her call a few days ago. She is the first commit of the Cardinals in the Class of 2025.
The Danville Christian Academy star gained the spotlight after scoring 34 points, four blocks and 14 rebounds in a state tournament. A Power 5 coach who has seen her play has praised Mbugua for her versatility.
“She can play 1 through 5,” the coach told On3. “She has a really strong all-around game.
“She has a really nice 3-point shot. She can clear the glass and run in transition. She can bring it up herself. She’s an elite rebounder and shot blocker, and she’s got good handles.”
Grace Mbugua has been sensational at Danville Christian Academy
Grace Mbugua recorded 2,007 points and 1,527 rebounds in three years at Danville. She averaged 25.7 points, 6.6 blocks and 15.4 rebounds per game last season, which was fifth most points and second most rebounds in the state.
As a junior, Mbugua helped the Danville Warriors finish the season with a 29-3 record. She led the team to their 12th Region Championship. Mbugua is likely to miss the first few games of her senior year as she tore her ACL in the summer.
The Cardinals are geared up to make many more additions from the 2025 class. They have their eyes set on the likes of Ciara Byars, ZaKiyah Johnson, Deniya Prawl and Jaliya Davis.
