Four-star offensive tackle Carter Scruggs from Loudoun County High School in Virginia battled through a torn labrum for two seasons. He underwent surgery to repair the injury and has been cleared ahead of his junior season.
Scruggs remains hot in the recruitment process, as he has already received over a dozen offers. Mario Cristobal's Miami extended a scholarship offer to him on Monday.
"After a great conversation with [Miami senior analyst Edwin Pata] I’m extremely blessed to have earned an offer from Miami‼️#GoCanes," Scruggs tweeted.
Miami has three committed players in the 2026 class, ranking No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the ACC. It features four-star linebacker Jordan Campbell, wide receiver Malachi Toney and quarterback Dereon Coleman. If Scruggs commits to the program, he will be the first offensive tackle in the class.
The 6-foot-6, 270-pound OT has already landed offers from Penn State, Florida State, USC, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon, Rutgers, South Carolina, Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
Scruggs is ranked by On3 as the No. 125 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 8 in the 2026 class and the No. 7 recruit in Virginia. 247 Sports places him as the No. 133 overall prospect nationally, the No. 6 in the class and the No. 6 recruit in Virginia.
Virginia Tech and Penn State lead the race for Carter Scruggs' commitment
Virginia Tech is leading the race to secure the commitment of 2026 prospect Carter Scruggs, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, which gives the Hokies a 24.3% chance of landing him. He went to Virginia in April for an unofficial visit and had positive things to say about his experience.
"The visit went really well," Scruggs told VR Scoop. "I got to tour the facilities, tour the campus, watch the scrimmage, meet a marketing professor, and watch film with coach Crook."
The Virginia product also visited the Hokies during the spring game. The program has quarterback Peyton Falzone committed to the 2026 class.
Penn State is also in contention for Scruggs, holding a 16.1% chance of securing his commitment, per On3. Scruggs attended Penn State's final Junior Day earlier this year, where he received a scholarship offer. He also participated in the Penn State Elite Prospects Camp in June.
“The coaching staff is awesome,” Scruggs told Nittany Sports Now. “They really make me feel like family, they feel like real genuine people. I have a great relationship with them.”
The Nittany Lions' 2026 recruiting clas rank No. 2 in the nation, with six committed players. The cycle features interior offensive lineman Kevin Brown, running back Messiah Mickens, wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers, quarterback Troy Huhn, edge rusher Daniel Jennings and wide receiver Lavar Keys.
