West Virginia quarterback commit Brodie McWhorter, a standout at Cass High School in Georgia, was named First-Team All-Region 7-5A in both 2022 and 2023. However, his promising junior season was cut short due to a severe injury.

During last week's game against Hiram, the signal-caller suffered a broken fibula and a dislocated ankle, which abruptly ended his season. McWhorter underwent successful surgery and has now begun his recovery. He expressed gratitude for the support, sharing an update on X:

"Appreciate all the calls/text this past week from everyone. Blessed and thankful to have the best nurses and doctors. Very successful surgery this morning - Road to recovery starts now ! God is great ! 🙏🏼."

McWhorter recorded 149 of 230 passes for 2,800 yards and 30 touchdowns last season. His injury marks the second big blow to the Colonels this season, following the loss of defensive lineman Kaden Ellis to a season-ending injury during the preseason.

The Colonels, who began their season 3-0, have been struggling in recent weeks by losing three consecutive games. They started September with a tough 43-14 defeat against North Cobb, followed by a 41-28 loss in their first region game against Hiram on Sept. 13.

Their latest defeat was a 36-0 blowout against Cedartown on Friday, where costly special teams errors allowed the Bulldogs to dominate.

Brodie McWhorter's recruitment update

Brodie McWhorter has been committed to West Virginia since June 24. A strong connection with quarterbacks coach Tyler Allen let him choose the school over Auburn, Florida, North Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, NC State, Ohio State, Oregon, Purdue, UCF, Nebraska and Virginia Tech, among others.

The 2026 class has also earned commitment from linebacker Daiveon Taylor besides him.

McWhorter made a game-day visit to Nebraska this month alongside three-star quarterback Michael Clayton and Cornhuskers commit TJ Lateef. Nebraska has made a strong push, but according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, West Virginia holds a 78.5% chance of retaining McWhorter’s commitment.

Brodie McWhorter is ranked by Rivals as the No. 148 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 10 quarterback in the 2026 class and the No. 21 recruit in Georgia. As per 247 Sports, he's the No. 25 quarterback in the class and the No. 40 recruit in the state.
