Three-star linebacker Joshua Galbreath, from Lawrence High School in Kansas, wrapped up August with an offer from the Illinois Fighting Illini. This followed previous offers from major programs, including Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska and Iowa State.
On Monday, Michigan's linebacker coach, Brian Jean-Mary, extended an offer to him for the Wolverines' 2026 class.
"The linebacker coach called me this morning giving me the news," Galbreath shared with The Michigan Insider. "I was/am very excited to have the opportunity."
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound prospect shared the news on X/Twitter, tagging Jean-Mary:
"After a great conversation with @luc_brian, I am blessed to receive an offer from the University Of Michigan. @UMichFootball."
Sherrone Moore's Michigan has two players committed to its 2026 class: four-star quarterback Brady Hart from Cocoa, Florida, and four-star cornerback Brody Jennings from Jacksonville, Florida.
This season, Galbreath is adding offensive responsibilities to his repertoire, as his MaxPreps profile lists him as both a linebacker and wide receiver. So far this campaign, he has tallied 15 tackles, three sacks and a quarterback hurry on defense. He also excels in basketball and was selected as an honorable mention in his basketball district, according to 247 Sports.
Kansas remains the frontrunner for Joshua Galbreath's commitment
As per Rivals, Joshua Galbreath is the No. 29 linebacker in the 2026 class and the No. 4 prospect in Kansas. He is also ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 26 athlete in the cycle and the No. 6 recruit in the state.
Since moving to Lawrence in 2018, Galbreath has closely followed his hometown team, the Kansas Jayhawks, a program he might soon join. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Kansas has a 96.3% chance of securing his commitment for the 2026 class, which currently has no commitments.
The Jayhawks were one of the first programs to offer him a scholarship, extending the offer on June 12 after a camp session where he worked with linebackers coach Chris Simpson.
“It was good opportunity to get around the coaches and the staff,” Joshua Galbreath said. “I've been over there a couple of times, and I just like getting closer to staff, and seeing what the team's all about.” [H/T Rivals]
Galbreath’s ties to the program run deep, as his father, Eric, played fullback for the Jayhawks. He plans to take an unofficial visit to watch the school play in Kansas City, as per Rivals.
Though Kansas is the clear favorite, Nebraska remains in the hunt with a 3.5% chance of landing Joshua Galbreath. The Nebraska Cornhuskers offered him a scholarship on June 8.
