Four-star cornerback Joshua Dobson has emerged as one of the top cornerbacks in South Carolina. The 2027 class prospect attends Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Dobson kicked off his game-day visit on August 31, when he was in attendance for Texas A&M's 23-13 loss to Notre Dame. He announced his second game-day visit to the South Carolina Gamecocks game against the LSU Tigers on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.
In the X post, Dobson tagged South Carolina defensive player personnel Kwame Agyei-Minta and defensive back coach Torrian Gray, writing:
"Cant wait to be back at the University of South Carolina this weekend @KwameAgyeiMinta @togray14 @DC15sports @SC_DBGROUP @JibrilleFewell @the_real_GP @ZLendyak @JamaleFoster @MohrRecruiting @SWiltfong_
@coachturner5 @Coach_Swagg4 @CoachSweeting @RivalsFriedman @AnnaH247."
Shane Beamer's South Carolina enters the game against LSU with a 2-0 record after a dominant 31-6 win over Kentucky on Saturday. Freshman defensive end Dylan Stewart has been a key player for the Gamecocks' defense, posting impressive stats through two games, including 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Stewart is expected to play a big role against LSU, which will feature a formidable offensive line anchored by right tackle Emery Jones Jr. and left tackle Will Campbell.
The Tigers rebounded from their week-one loss to USC with a decisive 44-21 win over the Nicholls. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has been a standout for the Tigers, amassing 610 passing yards and eight touchdowns through two games.
Duke remains the frontrunner for Joshua Dobson's commitment
Joshua Dobson received offers from Indiana, NC State, Connecticut, Duke, South Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, and UConn, among others. Duke was the first to extend an offer to him in February and he visited the program in April.
The Blue Devils remain the leader in the race for Dobson's recruitment, as the program has a 32.5% chance of securing Dobson's commitment, according to On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
In the 2024 season, Dobson recorded seven tackles and 3.5 tackles for losses. He is ranked by the On3 Industry Ranking as the No. 30 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 4 cornerback in the 2027 class and the No. 2 recruit in South Carolina.
Besides Dobson, Duke also extended offers to multiple cornerbacks, including Khalid Rainer, Marquis Bryant and Ashton Alston. Rainer is also heavily leaning toward the Blue Devils, with a 46.5% chance of committing, according to the same prediction model.
