Defending Chipotle national champions Montverde Academy Eagles have gotten a massive new transfer. Looking to defend their championship, four-star King Gibson will be joining the team. The Eagles had that legendary undefeated run last year, with Cooper Flagg leading the way. The team wants to replicate that success this year.
King Gibson is regarded as a four-star prospect from the Class of 2027, ranked No. 15 overall, and the No. 2 shooting guard in his class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. With his transfer to Florida, his status as the No. 2 player in North Carolina for his class may be going away soon.
"King gives us added depth and will help make us a more dangerous team on both sides of the ball 🏀 He has athleticism, scoring ability, and defensive versatility 🔒 We are happy to have him join the team on our quest to capture a 9th national championship this season and to help future teams keep MVA 🦅 at the top of high school basketball 📈," wrote the official Montverde Academy Instagram account in its caption.
Gibson is rated a four-star by On3, ESPN, and Rivals but remains unranked and unrated by 247Sports. Despite still being a sophomore, he already has several big offers for college, including North Carolina A&T, High Point, Texas A&M, Wake Forest, The College of Charleston, South Carolina, Howard, and Cal State Bakersfield.
King Gibson transfer announcement came after The Burlington School lost game to Blue Ridge
With Montverde Academy confirming that four-star shooting guard King Gibson is indeed transferring to Florida, he was still playing for The Burlington School Spartans last Dec. 7. This was against Blue Ridge, and his final game with the Spartans did not go as he hoped.
Blue Ridge won that game with a 23-point victory, with the final score 73-50. Gibson, who was the school's star player, scored 13 points in the game, shooting five for 12. He also had eight rebounds and three steals.
The Burlington School's next opponent will be Burlington Christian Academy on Tuesday. With the transfer being announced on Tuesday, it is not clear if he will play his final game with the team.
With King Gibson expected to leave for Florida soon, Burlington are left without a star player. The school currently has a 7-4 standing and is ranked third in their conference.
