Miami's Christopher Columbus High School, known to be a powerhouse in high school basketball, has gotten a strong transfer to compliment its five-star duo of Cameron and Cayden Boozer. The school will be reinforced by five-star Caleb Gaskins, who is transferring from Montverde Academy to Columbus.
On Sunday, Gaskins posted about his new school on Instagram.
"Next Chapter….," he wrote in the caption.
The Boozer Twins' dad, former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer, had a simple reaction to the news.
"Welcome my man," the former Utah Jazz star wrote in the comments section.
With his addition, the Christopher Columbus High School Explorers will be filled with five-star talents, led by No. 2-ranked Cameron Boozer and No. 21 Cayden Boozer, both of whom are from the Class of 2025. Gaskins is the No. 13 prospect from the Class of 2026.
Many were shocked by the transfer, as Gaskins was still playing for Montverde Academy during the Border League in Las Vegas earlier this month. They were the defending champions and finished the Las Vegas leg 2-0, with Gaskins leading the team, which was playing as the Florida Eagles instead of the Montverde Academy Eagles.
During his time at Montverde, he was underutilized as the team focused more on its stacked lineup of seniors, including Duke freshman Cooper Flagg, who led the Eagles to their undefeated championship season last year. Many believe Gaskins would have finally shined there now that the Class of 2024 had graduated. He only averaged 4.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game during that undefeated run.
Instead, he transferred to rivals Christopher Columbus, where the Boozer twins are, just before the high school basketball season began. How much of the ball he would get with the twins around is still up for debate.
Boozer Twins and Caleb Gaskins have a Duke connection
The Boozer Twins have already committed to Duke University, which is Carlos Boozer's alma mater. The school is still actively recruiting, with Cameron openly admitting he is helping out in the recruitment efforts. While no offer has officially been sent yet, the Blue Devils have already expressed interest in Gaskins.
Coach Jon Scheyer is one of those who has already reached out to Gaskins last June when he was still playing for Montverde Academy. However, other schools, including Kansas, Florida, Louisville, Texas Tech, LSU, Georgia, San Diego and more, have also reached out to the then-sophomore during that time.
The Boozer twins and Gaskins are also part of the Nightrydas Elite EYBL team.
