The Mater Dei Monarchs took on their rivals, the St. John Bosco Braves, in the Southern Section Division 1 Championship game on Friday. It was one of the biggest playoff games this season and it did not disappoint, as the Monarchs took home the victory by just one score, 31-24.
Mater Dei came into the game with an unbeaten record and was ranked as the No. 1 team in the country, as per MaxPreps. They had already defeated the Braves in the regular season by a huge margin of 45 points.

These two teams met each other in the regular season as well and the result was the same. The Monarchs blew away the Braves and won the game 59-14.
However, the playoff game between these two sides on Friday was a competitive affair. The Braves gave a much better account of themselves and were in the contest till the very end. Although they lost the game, the Braves must be proud of their season and the performance they put forth in the playoffs.
#2 Mater Dei is set to take on the De La Salle Spartans in the CIF Open Division title game
The Mater Dei Monarchs have been the cream of high school football for the past decade now. They have had tremendous seasons in recent years and have won four state titles in the span of seven years. Two of those four titles came against their next opponents, the De La Salle Spartans, in 2016 and 2017.
The Spartans now have a chance to avenge those losses, on Dec. 14 at Saddleback College in Califonia. They will come into the game with a record of 12-0 and will pose a tough challenge for the Monarchs.

The Mater Dei Monarchs' victory on Friday against the St. John Bosco Braves was headlined by their running back Jordon Davison. The four-star prospect tallied 196 yards on 28 carries and scored three touchdowns.
He has been a great contributor for Mater Dei this season. Davison has racked up 1,126 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 102.3 yards per game. The four-star recruit is ranked No. 241 in the country and is the 17th-best running back in the Class of 2025. He is also the 19th-best overall recruit in the state of California.
