Three-star cornerback Terrance 'Deuce' Edwards announced his verbal commitment to West Virginia on Saturday. He has been a phenomenal two-way athlete for Trinity Episcopal High School in Richmond, Virginia.
Edwards received more than 30 scholarship offers throughout his recruitment. Among the notable offers were ones from Clemson, Florida State, Penn State, Virginia Tech, NC State, Boston College, Michigan State, and SMU, among others.
Edwards narrowed his choices to top three: West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Michigan State in May.
He initially planned to announce his decision on June 22 but an official visit to Morgantown during the weekend of May 31 cemented his decision to become a Mountaineer.
"It's been going back and forth," Edwards said (via Richmond). "One week it was West Virginia, one week it was Virginia Tech and the next week I was West Virginia again. It got to the point where I was like, 'That's where I'm going.'"
Edwards had initially scheduled an official visit to Michigan State for the upcoming weekend, but he has since canceled it. He becomes the 13th pledge in the Mountaineers' 2025 recruiting class and the third cornerback, joining Elgin 'El' Sessions and Zah Jackson.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Edwards is listed as the No. 530 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 51 cornerback, and the No. 17 prospect in Virginia. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 35 cornerback and the No. 18 prospect in Virginia.
Edwards recorded 33 tackles, 14 pass breakups, three interceptions, and a forced fumble while also scoring five touchdowns as a wide receiver during his junior season. He is an accomplished track athlete as well, holding Trinity Episcopal's record for the 55-meter hurdles.
Deuce Edwards shares why he chose West Virginia
The Mountaineers made an offer to Deuce Edwards in May 2022. Before his official visit last month, he also made several unofficial visits to the program, including this past spring. Edwards revealed what made the program unique for him.
"I'm going to West Virginia University because when I'm there, it just feels like I belong," Edwards said to Rivals. "It gives me that home feel and is a place I can grow and develop on and off the field. I knew it was the place for me after my official visit."
Edwards also had high praise for the Mountaineers' coaching staff.
"The development and hands-on style of the coaching staff stands out the most because it shows they care about the development and success of the players on and off the field."
A notable figure in Edwards' recruitment was secondary coach ShaDon Brown. Brown's dedication to Edwards' personal and athletic development played a crucial role in the recruit's decision.
"Coach ShaDon Brown's message to me was he personally wants to develop me into the best version of myself and the best CB I can be. He loves my size and physical style of play and how it translates to the Big 12."
Edwards also formed meaningful connections with head coach Neal Brown and defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach Jordan Lesley. He has bonded well with assistant defensive backs coach Jevaughn Codlin and defensive analyst Tre' Bell also. He is expected to play safety or cornerback for the Mountaineers.
