Chris Jeffrey, the four-star recruit with a 79 Scout Grade (according to ESPN), has officially committed to the Maryland Terrapins. Jeffrey ranks No. 145 nationally and 21st in his position (per 247 Sports).
He is a four-star recruit according to On3 and 247Sports and a three-star recruit according to ESPN and Rivals. The 6'3" point guard also ranks sixth in his position.
Jeffrey had offers from Texas A&M, Penn State, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Butler, Fordham, Northern Illinois and more. He narrowed his list down to Maryland, Mississippi State and Texas A&M before committing to Maryland.
In the 2023-24 Berlin Finals, the Overtime Elite guard played three games and averaged 8.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.7 blocks while shooting 38.3% from the field and 72.7% from the charity stripe.
In an interview with 'Inside the Black and Golden,' Chris Jeffrey talked about why he chose Maryland.
“It felt really good being around them because they’re always at my games, so sitting down and getting to talk to them face-to-face was really good,” Jeffrey told IBG after his official visit.
"It was great getting up there, getting to know the coaching staff a little bit more, seeing things that they do and how they differ from other colleges because they take their bodies way more serious to get to the next level. A lot of coaches prepare for right now but I could tell that Maryland, they’re preparing to get guys to the next level.”
What kind of player does Maryland get in Chris Jeffrey?
In his EYBL season, Jeffrey averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and almost two steals per contest. According to 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein, the combo guard 'raises the level' of players around him:
"Overall, he may not have the most polished skill set or a ton of wiggle, but he’s the type of player who raises the level of everyone around him and is consistently productive because of his physicality, toughness, motor and aggressive two-way floor game."
While defending, Chris Jeffrey has the ability to force turnovers and can also switch to bigger players due to his physical strength. With offers from plenty of other programs, Jeffrey had his eyes set on Maryland since he did not take any other official visits.
