Colorado five-star quarterback commit Julian Lewis has expressed gratitude as he gets closer to the next stop in his journey into college football. Lewis, who flipped his commitment from USC to Deion Sanders’ Colorado weeks ago, shared his gratitude via a post on his X account on Tuesday. He tweeted:
“Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey with me so far. See y’all tomorrow.”
Wednesday, Dec. 4 is designated the 2024 National Signing Day, becoming the earliest-ever date in NCAA’s history as a national signing day. It signals the opening of a three-day window during which high school prospects can sign up for college programs.
Julian Lewis is expected to sign for the Colorado Buffaloes after flipping to the program in November. Prior to that, he had been committed to USC since Aug. 2023. Nevertheless, he remained actively recruited by leading programs, paying unofficial visits to the Georgia Bulldogs and the Indiana Hoosiers.
However, it was Sanders and the Colorado Buffs that eventually got Lewis’ pledge, reinforcing Coach Prime's reputation for flipping top talents to his side. Remember, he successfully recruited two-way star Travis Hunter to his Jackson State program, snatching him from Florida State. The next cycle also saw him flip cornerback Cormani McClain from Miami.
What signing Julian Lewis means for Colorado
Signing Lewis is crucial for the Buffs whose starting quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, would be off to the NFL at the next draft. The five-star quarterback was the top prospect in the 2026 class before reclassifying. Notwithstanding, he is a top-10 quarterback recruit for the 2025 class and draws constant comparisons with Bryce Underwood, who also flipped from LSU to Michigan.
Another significance of Julian Lewis’ signing for Colorado is what it means for the program's profile. After finishing bottom of the Pac-12 in 2022, the Buffs entrusted their rebuilding and recovery to Coach Prime. The ability to attract a talent of Lewis’ rating less than two seasons into the process goes to show how well the program is doing. Evidence of this can also be seen in the results the team has been getting on the field. From just four wins in 12 games in his first season, the team's result has improved to a 9-3 overall regular-season record this season.
Lewis will have Sanders’ tutelage as he transitions from an impressive high school career. His high school career saw him throw for more than 7,000 yards and 96 touchdowns in his first two seasons.
