Jasper Johnson, a highly touted 5-star shooting guard in the 2025 recruiting class, is set to announce his commitment on Thursday, Sept. 5. This significant announcement will take place at his former school, Woodford County High, located in Lexington, Kentucky.

The 6-foot-4 native of Lexington has narrowed his decision down to three schools: Kentucky, Alabama, and North Carolina. His initial top five included Arkansas and Louisville. In an interview with On3, Johnson shared his impressions of the programs vying for his commitment. He spoke highly of Kentucky:

"I like them (the staff)...I got to watch them practice and heard (Pope’s) message...just building that relationship."

He acknowledged the new coaching staff at Kentucky, and he believes they will excel with the current team.

"Just got to see them play so just building that relationship. I know its his first year at Kentucky, but I feel like he will do a good job with the team he has this year.”

Johnson also praised Alabama’s track record, particularly their ability to develop guards.

“They produce every year. They produce great guards and their guard play is really good and they just had a Final Four run. Coach (Nate) Oats does a really good job up there so I’ve been staying in contact with them."

Johnson also spoke about North Carolina.

“Coach (Hubert) Davis tells me if he could get me now as a reclass, or stay (in 2025), he wants me whenever.”

The Tar Heels’ staff has been persistent in building a relationship, with Coach Sean May maintaining daily contact with Johnson and his family.

"He definitely says he wants me to play for him next year or whenever I want to. So him giving me that message and then coach (Sean) May is texting me and my parents every single day. Just building that relationship and that bond.”

Kentucky currently holds an 84.9% lead in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Jasper Johnson evaluates Louisville and Arkansas ahead of college decision

Jasper Johnson, a five-star guard known for his exceptional shooting range and scoring ability, is highly regarded for his deep three-point shooting and proficiency in catch-and-shoot scenarios.

In an interview with On3, Johnson shared his thoughts on both Arkansas and Louisville. Regarding Louisville, he said:

“Knowing I’m from Lexington, they want me to make that move to the other side. (The coaches) came to visit my parents at home so they talked to them for about 2-3 hours. (Kelsey) called me and gave me a speech of what he wants me to do. And his vision for me if I was to come there. We’ve just been keeping in contact.”

Regarding Arkansas, Johnson appreciated Coach Calipari’s straightforward approach and his vision for Johnson’s potential future.

"Big time guards play for Cal, that’s what he always says. He asked me the question, ‘What do you want to be with this?’ and I was like ‘a lottery pick’ and he was like ‘that’s it?’ so I mean him saying he really wants me and what he can see for my future is a good thing.”

Johnson ranked No. 11 in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, is currently set to finish his senior year at Overtime Elite, following time at both Link Academy and Woodford County.
