For the first time, the Ontario Christian Knights defeated the Etiwanda Eagles 74-66 on Saturday night in the championship game of the Harvard-Westlake Invitational. The Knights' win in Studio City, LA, came despite five-star LSU commit Grace Knox having a big 30-point performance for the Eagles.

Freshman Sydney "Bean" Douglas led the Lady Knights with a double-double performance of 23 points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, No. 1-ranked sophomore Kaleena Smith added 20 points for the winning squad, showing why she is the best player in the Class of 2027.

However, Douglas was not the only Ontario Christian player with a double-double, as Tatiana Griffin had 12 points and 13 rebounds to add to her two steals and one assist.

The win continues Ontario Christian's undefeated run to 3-0, while Etiwanda, the back-to-back CIF Open Division state champion, slid to a 2-1 record. Lady Knights coach Aundre Cummings then sounded off on this first win against the powerhouse school.

“We hadn’t beaten this team ever. This is the first time in school history,” he said in a statement. “So, the anticipation of the girls had us fired up from the start.”

The Lady Knights started the game hot and jumped to an 11-point lead in the first quarter. The team never looked back since, leading for the rest of the game.

Ontario Christian coach says this is the start of a new rivalry with Etiwanda

With Etiwanda stars like Aliyahna Morris and Grace Knox graduating, this seems like a passing of the torch moment as Ontario Christian is loaded with up-and-coming stars who are still in their freshman and sophomore years like Smith, an Adidas NIL signee, and Douglas. However, the school's coach thinks this is only the beginning of a new rivalry.

“I think it’s the start of a rivalry,” Cummings told The Sun. “It’s like a North Carolina-Duke kind of vibe because they’re five miles from each other. We’re excited about these kids. It’s all about them and their growth, to beat a school like Etiwanda, the school has never done something like that before.”

However, this might be the only time both teams will meet this season, though that may change if there are changes to their schedule.

MaxPreps lists Etiwanda as the No. 1 school nationally for high school girls basketball, while Ontario Christian is ranked at No. 10. This added more pressure for the Knights to win, as Cummings noted that he and the girls had a lot of expectations riding on them.
