No. 1 ranked Michigan recruit Bryce Underwood is in Tampa, Florida, and was seen training with the Wolverines for the first time. Also in town is the WWE, which had an episode of Smackdown on Friday and Underwood took this chance to watch the show live, as seen on his Instagram Stories from Friday.
While he did not get ringside seats, Bryce Underwood still had a good view of the ring during that episode of Smackdown, which was held at the Amalie Arena in Tampa.
The episode featured Bayley, Naomi and Bianca Belair defeating Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton and Candice LeRae, as well as WWE teasing the possibility of a Braun Strowman vs. Jacob Fatu match down the line. It also featured the continuation of the Kevin Owens vs. Cody Rhodes feud and the New Bloodline attacking Sami Zayn after he took on Carmelo Hayes.
The Wolverines were in Tampa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide for the ReliaQuest Bowl on the final day of the year. Ahead of the showdown, they brought in Bryce Underwood as part of the practice session, even though he is still in high school and not officially part of Michigan yet.
Underwood was seen in the QB room with Davis Warren, Jadyn Davis and Alex Orji.
Orji has already entered the Transfer Portal but is still practicing with his soon-to-be ex-teammates.
Before he signed with Michigan, Underwood actually made a verbal commitment to LSU. However, Michigan did not give up on the quarterback and offered him several big deals, including a mentorship with Michigan great Tom Brady and an NIL deal reportedly worth millions.
Michigan offensive coordinator comments on Bryce Underwood's performance
With Bryce Underwood joining the practice, Michigan Wolverines interim offensive coordinator Steve Casula spoke with 247Sports on Friday regarding what he has seen from the five-star quarterback.
"The biggest thing I would say about him is great spirit, great energy, committed to learning what we've got going on," he told 247Sports. "He's doing really good. He's great. He's a great personality. He's funny. I watch him — depending on the schedule, he walks by my office in the morning. He's one of the first guys in the building. So he's been awesome."
Current Wolverines quarterback Davis Warren also noted that he was impressed by Underwood, especially by the No. 1 recruit's work ethic.
