The much-anticipated clash between Tyran Stokes' Notre Dame and Brayden Burries' Eleanor Roosevelt High School took place Saturday, December 21, and it turned out to be quite an epic showcase for the two 5-star recruits. Going into the game, Stokes' Notre Dame had won 12 games in a row, while Burries' Roosevelt Varsity Boys had only lost once in their last 10 games.
The game, which ended 76-58, was, however, not as tight as many would have expected it to be.
Although the match might not end up being as tight as many would have expected, it was still a good showing. Both 5-star recruits, Tyran Stokes and Brayden Burries, ensured that their respective fans were treated to a brilliant display of basketball.
Roosevelt's Burries was especially electrifying, putting up 26 points, eight rebounds, and three assists to lead his team to victory and win the MVP award. Other players like combo guard Issac Williamson, who finished the game with 19 points and small forward Dominic Copenhagen, who scored 10 points, were also crucial to the team's victory.
On the other end of the court, Tyran Stokes also had a strong performance that saw him score 20 points and 11 rebounds for Notre Dame. Alongside shooting guard Zachary White, who ended the game with 18 points, were the team's top performers in a losing effort.
Tyran Stokes' Notre Dame sees 12-game winning streak come to an end vs Brayden Burries' Roosevelt
The loss against Eleanor Roosevelt High School ended Tyran Stokes and Notre Dame's 12-game winning run.
Each quarter ended with at least an eight-point difference between the two teams. The first quarter had Notre Dame secure a 15-point lead as it ended with a 27-12 scoreline. The Knights started the game on a good note, and it was already looking like they'd be extending their winning streak.
However, heading into the second quarter, it was as if the Knights went to sleep. Eleanor Roosevelt High School not only erased the 15-point deficit but also established a one-point lead as Notre Dame trailed 35-34.
By the second half, the Knights continued to find it difficult to match Roosevelt Varsity Boys' intensity as they watched them pull further away as the game progressed.
By the end of the third quarter, Notre Dame was down by 10 points. It got even worse in the fourth quarter, as Roosevelt High School further extended its lead to 18 points and won by a final scoreline of 76-58 to take the Tarkanian Classic Platinum Division Championship.
With the loss, Notre Dame now has a 12-1 record this season. They will be hoping to bounce back from this painful loss in their next game against Sierra Vista.
