Five-star recruit Meleek Thomas is a popular choice among many programs. In July, Thomas narrowed his list down to seven schools (according to On3.com). The list included prestigious institutes like Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Kansas, Kansas State, Pitt and UConn.
The 6-foot-3 guard ranks at the ninth spot in the 2025 ESPN 100 Recruiting Database. Thomas planned to visit John Calipari and the Razorbacks last weekend but had his trip to Arkansas moved to Oct. 5.
Thomas is an out-and-out scorer who has an exceptional ability to shoot the ball from range. He recorded a double-double with a game-high 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native also recorded five steals in the 2024 WPIAL Class 4A boys basketball championship to lead his team to back-to-back titles.
His scouting report commends him on his ability to play off the bounce and dribble through traffic. Ranked as the No. 2 shooting guard in the class, Thomas is also a great on-ball defender. He averaged 22.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.2 steals per game while shooting an impressive 57% from the field. He shot 38% from beyond the arc and 78% from the charity stripe.
Meleek Thomas talks about the Arkansas program
The Arkansas Razorbacks did not have the season they would have desired last year. Under head coach Eric Musselman the Razorbacks finished 12th in the Southeastern Conference. They had a 16-17 overall record and a 6-12 conference record. In the NCAA tournament, South Carolina knocked them out in the second round.
However, things might turn around quickly under the new coach. When asked about the program, Thomas commended the communication from Calipari and stated that he felt "comfortable":
“Coach Cal (John Calipari) and Coach Chin (Coleman) just want to let me know that they’re there every step of the way. I hear from them very often, and I feel the love and it is genuine from them," Thomas said. "I want to see how their recruitment looks and who all is going to be there when I’m there. That is what I’m waiting to see unfold. Their communication with me is excellent.
“When I went on my visit with them to Kentucky, things felt good. I didn’t feel like I was an outsider and it was comfortable being around them.”
It is obvious that Thomas would add great value to any program he ends up in. However, only one can land the Overtime Elite academy player. Which team will we see Thomas in next season?
