Ohio State quarterback Air Noland entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday, making him the second Buckeyes signal-caller to announce plans to transfer in just a week.
Devin Brown, the team's top backup, also entered the portal but will remain with Ohio State for its College Football Playoff semifinal matchup against Tennessee on Saturday.
Five-star recruit Tavien St. Clair, who signed with the Buckeyes on Dec.4, reacted to the news with a three-word message:
"Go be great."
Noland's departure comes less than a year after joining the Buckeyes as a highly regarded recruit. Ranked No. 59 overall in the 2024 recruiting class and the fifth-best quarterback, Noland was unable to secure significant playing time.
He did not appear in any of Ohio State's 12 games this season and was fifth on the quarterback depth chart behind Lincoln Kienholz, Brown, Julian Sayin and starter Will Howard.
Noland's transfer decision follows Sayin's arrival earlier this year after a brief stint with Alabama. Sayin quickly established himself as a top contender in the quarterback pecking order, often edging out Noland in competition.
With four years of eligibility remaining, Noland now has the opportunity to reset his college career elsewhere. The talented quarterback was Ohio State's sole quarterback signee in his class until Sayin transferred in.
Tavien St. Clair honored as Navy All-American, partners with Panini
Bellefontaine (OH) High School senior quarterback Tavien St. Clair continues to garner accolades, earning recognition as a Navy All-American in high school football.
During halftime of the Bellefontaine vs. Urbana boys' basketball game, St. Clair was presented with his All-American Bowl jersey. He is among the top 100 senior players invited to the Navy All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 11.
On Dec. 4, St. Clair joined the Buckeyes as one of the best five quarterbacks in the nation. He was able to both run and pass in his senior season, as proved by passing for 2,536 yards, 29 touchdowns and running for eight more touchdowns.
Tavien St. Clair's exceptional performance has also earned him a partnership with Panini America, a leader in trading cards and sports memorabilia.
“As I enter the next phase of my football life, I’m excited to partner with a leader in the trading card space like Panini,” St. Clair said. “Growing up you dream of having your own Panini trading card – to actually have that happening and use it as another way to be connected with Ohio State fans is incredible.”
St. Clair joins a star-studded roster of Panini NIL athletes, including future Ohio State teammate Julian Sayin, Alabama's Jalen Milroe, Texas standouts Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning, Nebraska's Dylan Raiola and USC's Zachariah Branch.
