No. 5 recruit Caleb Wilson remains one of the four Top 10 recruits who are yet to commit to a college. However, there has reportedly been some progress on his recruitment. Wilson is ranked as the best player in Georgia and the second-best player in the power forward position, and was heavily linked with UCF and Ohio State.
The Holy Innocents Episcopal School player received 27 offers from programs across the nation. He narrowed down his list to five on Nov. 18, including Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, UCF and Ohio State.
On3's Joe Tipton reports that Wilson now has a timeframe in mind for his commitment. Tipton took to X to share:
"5 Star Caleb Wilson tells me he plans to make a commitment in January “for sure," said Tipton.
Wilson rejected Duke, Arkansas and Auburn after he visited the programs, and also did not reschedule his canceled visit with Arkansas on Nov. 16, as reported by Rivals reporter Jackson Collier.
However, according to his recent conversation with On3, it looks like the Atlanta, GA native is leaning towards Mark Pope and the Wildcats:
“They run and gun, shoot a lot of threes, and run the court,” Wilson said. “They have a lot of older players so they play with a lot of experience. Coach (Mark) Pope is an energetic coach and he has a high basketball IQ.
“His message, he just tells me that I fit his system perfectly. I think I do too. He allows his fours to push the floor and make decisions. I feel like that is something I’m really good at, pushing and passing.”
Caleb Wilson has played 80 games for the Holy Innocents Episcopal School and is averaging a double-double with 18.1 ppg, 4.2 apg, 11.8 rpg, 1.5 spg and 4.0 bpg. This season is his senior year and Wilson has played 11 matches so far scoring 19.5 points, grabbing 10.5 boards, dishing out 5.0 assists and stealing the ball 2.3 times combined with 3.6 blocks per game.
How good is Caleb Wilson?
The 6-foot-9 power forward described himself as a combo forward during his conversation with On3. He also stated that his favorite player in the NBA is the 2023 NBA Champ Nikola Jokic and that he tries to model his game around the Serbian.
“I play like a combo forward role,” Caleb Wilson told On3. “I can shoot the three, can shoot off the dribble, I’m a very good passer, and defensively I can play perimeter and interior defense. He’s been my favorite player since his rookie year.
Kentucky leads the race to land Caleb Wilson with a 74.5% prediction, according to On3's Recruitment Prediction Machine.
