6-foot-8 power forward Dezmon Briscoe has committed to playing college basketball at the University of Iowa. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, the Class of 2025 recruit pledged to the Hawkeyes on Friday, even with offers from other top programs, including Cincinnati, Indiana State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, DePaul and Duquesne.
The Crispus Attucks senior had 16 offers, and according to On3, the Hawkeyes were only third in the race to secure his commitment. The Cincinnati Bearcats were predicted to have the highest chance of getting him with 29.5%, followed by the DePaul Blue Demons at 25.8%.
Biscoe has been a crucial player for Crispus Attucks High, winning the City Player of the Year award twice during his four years with the team. In 2023-24, he averaged 14.3 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocks per game, and he has wasted no time continuing where he left off this season as a senior.
In the Tigers' first game of the season, Briscoe delivered an impressive 30-point play to lead Crispus Attucks to an 84-49 win over the Indianapolis Arsenal Technical Titans. He also grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots.
The three-star prospect is currently out with an ankle sprain. The Tigers will be hoping for a quick recovery, as they're feeling his absence, losing their last two games.
Dezmon Briscoe on why he chose Iowa over other offers
Dezmon Briscoe explained that his decision to choose Iowa was the relationship he has with the Hawkeyes coach Fran McCaffery. Speaking to On3, he said:
“I chose Iowa because of the relationship with me and coach Fran. He believes in me and I believe in the coaching staff and I think they will get me where I need to be.”
With his high school stats and achievements, it’s safe to say that Dezmon Briscoe has had a successful high school career. Hopefully, he can replicate this same level of success and even beyond, under McCaffery’s guidance.
