Jordan Smith Jr. may still be a high school junior, but because he's ranked No. 5 in the 2026 class by ESPN, the top schools from all over the country are all trying to get him. Several are lining up to host him for official visits, and five have been the most aggressive.
The 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Paul VI High School (Chantilly, Virginia) is ranked No. 6 overall as well as the No. 3 shooting guard and the No. 1 prospect in Virginia by On3. He told On3 that Georgetown, Duke, Arkansas, Louisville and Kansas have offered him scholarships and said the five programs have been trying to contact him the most.
Jordan Smith Jr. also has offers from Tennessee, Ohio State, Houston, Alabama, Michigan, North Carolina, UConn, Kentucky and many others. Of those five schools, he has already officially visited Duke in November and has had unofficial visits to Louisville, Syracuse and nearby Georgetown.
Jordan Smith Jr. talks about the schools trying to recruit him
When Smith spoke with On3’s Jamie Shaw in July he spoke about four of the schools recruiting him.
For Louisville, he said:
“I like that they’re trying to switch things up from what they were the last couple years. They got a new coach, and Coach (Pat) Kelsey is trying to switch up their scheme and trying to play fast as much as possible. Watching them play, it looks like their scheme is working. They’re beating ranked teams and all, I’ve been impressed so far."
As for the Syracuse Orange, he said that the team's staff treats him like family.
“I learned a lot about them on my visit," Smith said. "At first, I was like, ‘Ok, it’s Syracuse, cool,’ but when I went up there, I was really surprised. They try to play fast. ... They keep in consistent contact with me, you know, asking how I’m doing and checking in on me about my practices and games, and stuff like that. I’m pretty close with Syracuse."
As for Georgetown, Jordan Smith Jr. had praise for Hoyas coach Ed Cooley.
“They’re trying to bring Georgetown back, and I really like that," Smith said. "They’re playing fast and my relationship with Coach Cooley is really, really good. I’m seeing a big leap with them. In Coach’s first year, it wasn’t that good. But this year, I’m enjoying watching them play. They’re really opening my eyes."
As for current favorite Duke, he says he likes the team as he gets to see his former teammates play there.
“My visit there was really fun," Smith said. "I got to see my former teammates Pat (Ngongba) and Darren (Harris). I got to spend a lot of time with them. I learned a lot from watching them play, and I learned a lot about myself, too.
"Watching them play, they’re playing their freshmen a lot with Cooper (Flagg) and Isaiah (Evans). I’ve been really impressed with them so far."
While Syracuse has not been one of the most aggressive schools recruiting him, it's still among his favorites. It's ranked by On3 as his second-likeliest landing spot at 13.3%, with Duke being at the top spot with 56.5% due to the official visit.
Louisville (11.4%) is ranked third, with all the other schools having a less than 1% chance. However, since Jordan Smith Jr. is still a junior, a lot could change as he takes his official visits.
