Six-time NBA All-Star Jermaine O'Neal, currently the head coach at Dynamic Prep, where his son Jermaine O'Neal Jr. plays, has led the team to the City of Palms Signature Series title. With 18 NBA seasons under his belt, the NBA veteran's experiences and insights have once again proven valuable in guarding his team to a much-coveted title, as they secured a win over the Bullis Bulldogs on Sunday.
The game, which ended in an 87-65 victory for Dynamic Prep, started with them behind by two points after the first quarter. However, from the second quarter, they dominated the court, outscoring Bullis in every remaining quarter.
By the second quarter of the game, they had secured a four-point lead after outscoring Bullis by six points. They then widened the gap by 14 points in the third quarter after outscoring Bullis by 10 points. In the fourth quarter, which turned out to be both team's highest-scoring quarter, they still managed to outscore Bullis by nine points to secure a final scoreline of 87-65.
Dynamic Prep's victory can be credited to their well-rounded offensive effort, as four players on the team ended up with double-figure points. 6-foot-3 shooting guard Jacobe Coleman finished the game with 15 points, 6-foot-9 SMU commit Jaden Toombs scored 18 points, and 6-foot-3 Oral Roberts commit Leroy Kelly scored 19 points, the highest for Dynamic Prep in the game.
Head Coach Jermaine O'Neal's son, Jermaine O'Neal Jr was also part of the party, as he chipped in 18 points and four assists. He was, in fact, very crucial in the first game of the series on Friday, as he delivered an impressive 20 points, alongside Toombs' 23 to help the team to a 78-67 victory.
The series only featured four teams who faced off in a knockout format. Bullis secured a 59-57 victory against Dream City Christian School in their first game of the series to qualify for the final showdown against Dynamic Prep.
NBA Veteran Jermaine O'Neal Continues Impressive Run With Dynamic Prep
The NBA veteran has been the coach at Dynamic Prep for three years now, and it's safe to say that the team has been doing quite well under his guidance. In the three seasons under his guidance, they've lost only eight of the 69 games they've played. They also won the Chick-fil-A Classic championship last season. The City of Palms Signature Series title is only the latest feather in the NBA legend's coaching cap.
With the win against Bullis School, Dynamic Prep is now on a 16-3 record this season. The victory also marks the team's seventh win in a row.
