Aaliyah Chavez, the No. 1 overall prospect, wished her mother, Andrea "Dre" Chavez, a happy birthday on Instagram on Tuesday. Aaliyah paid tribute to her mother, saying she wouldn't be where she is today if it weren’t for her focus and hard work.
Aaliyah posted a collage of pictures of the two together with the caption:
“Happy Birthday to my day 1 for our glue to this family I love you."
Andrea has often celebrated Aaliyah’s milestones on social media. From childhood photos of Aaliyah playing in games to celebrations of high-profile tournaments, Andrea has made it obvious of how proud she is of her daughter's accomplishments.
A few days back, Andrea shared a touching post about Aaliyah: a throwback picture of the Monterey High School point guard at a basketball practice.
Aaliyah is the top girls' basketball recruit in the nation for the Class of 2025. She has averaged 30.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.1 steals per game over the past season.
Chavez has received numerous offers, including from Arizona, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, and USC.
Where will Aaliyah Chavez take her talents next?
Chavez has narrowed her list to six schools: LSU, Texas Tech, UCLA, South Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma. She said she would place a focus on energy and consistency from the coach and the rest of the staff when finalizing her decision.
"I don't want a coach that's low energy, and I need to make sure that they're going to be there the whole time. I don't want a coach that's just going to be there for two years ... I want them to be there all four years," she told On3 in July.
Chavez recently eclipsed the 4,000-point mark in her career and is rapidly climbing the all-time high school girls basketball scoring list.
