Utah Prep five-star quarterback AJ Dybantsa drops spectacular performances day in and day out. His skills and dunks, in particular, have gained the attention of fans. On Sunday, Dybantsa reposted therealgrindsession’s Instagram story, which featured him scoring an effortlessly smooth 3-pointer.
In the video shared, he looks away as the ball passes through the net. Somehow, it makes the 3-pointer even cooler and more impressive than it already is.
“🫣,” he wrote
On Saturday, Utah Prep faced Albuquerque Prep at Grind Session, Hilo, Hawaii. Dybantsa’s dominating 32-point performance with an incredible 13-for-15 shooting helped Utah Prep triumph with a massive gap of 117-77. He also contributed 10 rebounds, seven assists, one steal and a block.
The 6-foot-9, 200-pound small forward is ranked first among all the recruits of the Class of 2025. Thanks to Dybantsa’s consistent performances with the team, Utah Prep won the 2024 ‘Iolani Classic in Honolulu, and the 17-year-old was named the MVP of the tournament.
Last month, he won the MVP Award for his spectacular performance in a Hoopfest game with Utah Prep. He faced Link Academy and contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds. The BYU signee's consistent achievements have solidified his status as a top-ranked prospect.
How does AJ Dybantsa’s BYU signing help in the NBA goal?
On December 10, AJ Dybantsa appeared on ESPN’s ‘First Take’, where he announced his commitment to BYU. He chose BYU over offers from Alabama, Kansas and North Carolina. This decision also made him BYU’s highest-ranked recruit.
BYU offered Dybantsa in May 2024. He made an unofficial visit in June, an official one in October, and a game one in November. During Utah Prep games, the BYU coaches were often stopped.
Dybantsa's selection was most likely influenced by BYU's NBA-focused program and head coach Kevin Young's past NBA experience as an assistant with the Phoenix Suns and Philadelphia 76ers. Back in November, Young discussed BYU's strategy and staff, which includes assistant coaches, strainers and nutritionists.
“One of the things that I think is unique about us is the stuff that we’re talking to recruits and their parents about; it’s not hypothetical,” he said.
“I’ve done it at the NBA level. Where these guys are trying to get to, I’ve been there. I’ve lived that life, and I’ve brought a lot of people here on our staff who have also lived that life.”
AJ Dybantsa is already considered the first pick in the next NBA Draft. Fans are excited to see Dybantsa’s roll with the Cougars.
