Joy Egbuna, a highly talented power forward from the class of 2025, announced her commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday, October 25. The 6-foot-3 youngster had offers from Mississippi State, North Carolina, and Colorado. Egbuna took it to Twitter to make her commitment to the Crimson Tide official.
“GOD DID!! ❤️🤍@AlabamaWBB,” the caption read.
Egbuna has publicly praised the program at Alabama and has also been in touch with the coaching staff. Before committing, she expressed her admiration for the Crimson Tide and their coaching staff to On3.
“I love it. I’ve been talking to assistant coach Colsten Thompson, and I love him. He’s always cool. He feels more relatable with people my age, so it’s really easy talking to him,” she said.
Egbuna believes she’d be more comfortable adjusting to the Crimson Tide, especially considering her height.
“I like how they play and also the fact that they’re not a short team. They have tall guards, tall posts and everything. It’ll be great for me to expand my skill set and I think it would be a place for me to really fit in with my height and how I play at my height,” she added.
The Mansfield, Texas-born player also shared her fascination for Alabama’s winning ways and the support staff.
“The things that are really going to help me make my decision are winning – like if they make the NCAA Tournament – and the coaching staff,” she said.
Additionally, Egbuna believes that Alabama's style of play aligns well with her own.
“If I can tell they’re being wishy-washy because I’m there, that’s going to throw me off. I want to see what a real practice is like and who they really are. Another thing is that I like to play fast and uptempo… those are probably the biggest factors,” she chimed in.
The youngster also clairified that ther decision was not solely based on financial considerations.
“Money is nice, but it’s not about the money for me,” she concluded.
