He has an 87 scout grade and is ranked No. 4 in the center position. Toombs took to his Instagram account to confirm his commitment, which is SMU's highest-ranked recruit in over 10 years.
Jaden Toombs had offers from teams like SMU, Texas Tech, Alabama, Miami, Vanderbilt, LSU, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma but his final list included Alabama, LSU, Miami, SMU and Texas Tech. He was also part of Team USA at the 2024 FIBA U17 Men's World Cup in Turkey. Toombs averaged 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists to help his team clinch the gold medal.
At Dynamic Prep (Irving, Texas), Toombs played eight games in the 2023-24 season and averaged 14 points (68.7% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc), 8.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
Toombs was asked on Wednesday why he chose SMU over Vanderbilt, Alabama and Texas Tech. He said that the school is hungry for success and that he can already make an impact in his first season.
“It’s a school that’s hungry for success. I know I have a real chance to impact it as a freshman,” Toombs said during his announcement ceremony. “Being right here in Dallas, the love and support I’ll get makes it a great option for me.”
“(SMU is) getting a player who cares, a player who brings versatility offensively and somebody who is giving to give 100% out of every day."
