Four-star Notre Dame quarterback commit Deuce Knight has an elite physical profile that has allowed him to shine as a left-handed, dual-threat talent. His skills aren't limited to football as he also competes in track and field and basketball. His athleticism continues to attract other college programs but Auburn remains a top suitor.
Knight is set to visit Auburn this weekend when the Tigers face Oklahoma. It will be his third visit there this season, with two previous unofficial visits on August 31 and Sept. 7.
The back-to-back visit has fueled rumors that a potential flip from Notre Dame to Auburn could be in the works. Recruiting insider Tom Loy from 247Sports talked about this potential shift in August and drew a crystal ball prediction in favor of Auburn.
Although Ole Miss was initially seen as a serious contender for Knight, the attention has since shifted towards the Tigers. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Auburn now holds a 92.4% chance of flipping Knight from his Notre Dame commitment.
On Tuesday, Steve Wiltfong of On3 provided some potential reasons behind this discussion on "Wiltfong Whiparound."
"I think he certainly sees an opportunity to play right away for Auburn," Wiltfong said. "Certainly an opportunity to come in and compete, play with a nice group of young receivers and he has the skill set that Hugh Freeze is looking to be successful with at the quarterback position."
The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Deuce Knight is rated by On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 36 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 7 quarterback in the 2025 class and the No. 2 recruit in Mississippi.
Deuce Knight is also scheduled to visit Notre Dame for the Stanford game
Despite Knight's back-to-back visits to Auburn, Notre Dame fans may take comfort in the possibility of Knight returning to South Bend for another visit.
"I think he's going to visit Notre Dame for the Stanford game," Steve Wiltfong said. "I'm hearing that visit is in play so I expect him back in South Bend for the first time since the summer...so we'll see what that visit means - does he shut it down before that?"
Knight has shown interest in Notre Dame throughout the year as he attended multiple events including the Spring Game in April and the Irish Invasion Camp in June, followed by an official visit in mid-June. However, his sudden focus on Auburn has left Notre Dame fans and coaches anxious about his potential flip.
If Notre Dame can survive the next few weeks without Deuce Knight making an official switch to Auburn, the program's chances of securing his commitment long-term should improve significantly.
