Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight transferred from Nashville's Lipscomb Academy to George County High School in Mississippi ahead of his junior season. He has been committed to Notre Dame since Sep. 18, but Auburn remains a strong contender to flip him from the Fighting Irish.
Auburn is hoping to make a strong impression during Knight's visit for their season opener against Alabama A&M on August 31. His visit will coincide with that of Auburn running back commit Alvin Henderson, who sees Knight as a crucial piece to Auburn's 2025 recruiting class.
“My main thing this weekend is to get Deuce to understand how important he is to our class, how important he is to Auburn University," Henderson told Auburn Live.
Tom Loy, a 247Sports analyst, predicted that Knight may ultimately choose Auburn. On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine now gives the Tigers a 91.1% chance of flipping him from Notre Dame.
Auburn has 23 players committed to the 2025 class, ranking No. 5 in the nation and No. 4 in the SEC. The cycle has not gained commitment from any quarterback in the 2026 class, which features edge rusher Jared Smith, defensive lineman Nate Marshall and safety Anquon Fegans.
Analyst predicts the consequences of Deuce Knight's potential decommitment from Notre Dame
247Sports analyst Bud Elliott remains optimistic about Notre Dame's future, even with the potential loss of Deuce Knight to Auburn. He believes the Fighting Irish are well-positioned to thrive regardless.
“I personally expect them to lose Deuce Knight to Auburn maybe by the end of the month,” Elliott told Slap the Sign. “That's just what my Auburn people think will happen. And yet, if it was almost any other program in the country, I think that would be a full-on panic situation because Deuce Knight truly is a special upside talent.”
Andrew Ivins, 247Sports' Director of Scouting, described Knight as the ideal quarterback for a modern spread offense. His unique skill set makes him a highly sought-after prospect for any program.
Bud Elliott firmly believes in coach Marcus Freeman for his recruiting efforts. He praised the depth the Irish have added under the head coach, with C.J. Carr likely to take the reins as the starter next year.
“Now, if you're a Notre Dame fan, you're like, 'Man, are we going to make the jump and get to that national title?'" Elliott said. "And I think a lot of that is because they recruit offensive line quite well and they recruit quarterback extremely well, even with the potential loss of Deuce Knight.”
Notre Dame has already received commitments from 22 players, which ranks No. 13 in the nation.
