Johnnie Harris has added a new top player - Nylah Wilson - to the Auburn Tigers 2025 recruiting class. Wilson announced her commitment to Auburn on Saturday, joining 6-foot guard Brandie Harris as the Tigers’s first two commits in their 2025 class.
Wilson is a 5-9 guard from Thomas Dale High School in Chester, Virginia. She was highly sought after by several top programs, including Arizona, Ole Miss, Penn State, St. John’s, UCF, Florida, Memphis, Old Dominion, and West Virginia. She also received offers from VCU and Pittsburgh. However, it was Johnnie Harris’ Auburn that she found the most convincing, prompting her commitment to the program ahead of other offers.
The five-star guard outlined what stood out for her about Auburn in an interview with On3.
“Auburn has been very fun," Wilson said. "They have a great culture. I really like the teammates. They're very warm. I talk to the head coach pretty often, but also the assistants. It's everybody. Everybody is great. They’re a really cultured school. I really like Auburn.”
Notwithstanding, other personal factors influenced Nylah Wilson's final decision to commit to the Tigers. She prioritized a place where she'd be comfortable and be at home in addition to sporting factors like coaching and style of play. She also didn't mind the distance from her home as long as the other factors were in place.
“I want to go somewhere that I can see myself being comfortable," she added. "Really just a family environment, the style of play and the coach. I'm not really worried about distance from home or anything, so that's not really a factor.”
What does Nylah Wilson's commitment mean for Johnnie Harris’ Auburn Tigers?
Nylah Wilson already has an idea of what she would add to Auburn’s squad, analyzing her strength and style of play. She said,
“I'm a very high-intensity player," the five-star guard said. "I love to play defense. I'm a lockdown defender. I can get a bucket and I just love hooping.”
Wilson narrowed her options down to 12 programs back in July. Her commitment is a big win for Johnnie Harris, who will work hard to turn around the program's fortunes under her tenure.
The Tigers’ first full season (2021-22) under Harris ended in a terrible 10-18 record. However, the program has been gradually improving, with a 16-15 record in the 2022-23 season and bettered in the following season by a 20-12 record in 2023-24.
The Tigers will be aiming for a more improved campaign this season.
