Colorado’s dynamic two-way football star Travis Hunter was named the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year for 2025, cementing a season that redefined versatility.
Hunter received 26 of 43 votes from AP Top 25 panelists, beating Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty (16 votes) and Arizona State’s Cameron Skattebo (one vote). The standout player led No. 20 Colorado (9-3) to a berth in the Dec. 28 Alamo Bowl against No. 17 BYU (10-2).
Playing an unprecedented 1,360 snaps—688 on defense and 672 on offense—Hunter amassed 92 receptions, 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns while excelling defensively with 32 tackles, four interceptions and 11 passes defensed across 12 games.
Hunter swept the Bednarik (best defender) and Biletnikoff (top receiver) awards. He was named the AP Player of the Year on Thursday, bringing his weekly tally to six national honors.
Young football enthusiast Baby Gronk reacted to the Colorado Buffaloes’ Instagram post celebrating Hunter’s Walter Camp Player of the Year win. He wrote “TROPHIES,” perfectly capturing the sentiment surrounding Hunter’s exceptional year.
Earlier in the week, he secured the Lott IMPACT Award for defensive impact and the Paul Hornung Award for versatility.
His groundbreaking season included a first in the 135-year history of the Camp All-America team, being named to the first team on both offense and defense. Highlighting his dominance, Pro Football Focus graded him 91.1 in coverage, the best in the FBS, with just 22 catches allowed for 205 yards and one touchdown.
