Bill Belichick, the former head coach of the New England Patriots, signed with the North Carolina Tar Heels in December. The legendary head coach parted ways with the Patriots after 24 years in Jan. 2024 and was out of action for almost a year.

Belichick has already started building his roster for this year. He managed to flip four-star edge rusher Chinedu Onyeagoro from SMU on Friday. Onyeagoro signed with SMU in Dec. during the Early Signing Period. He chose the Mustangs over other programs such as Arizona State, Washington, Northwestern, Georgia, Tennessee and Clemson.

The defenseman's trainer, Traison Lewis, spoke about the Tar Heels and Onyeagoro's decision to commit to them.

"Everything came together really quick," Lewis said, as per 247Sports. "I mean you've got Bill Belichick, the greatest coach in NFL history running the show ... He won eight Super Bowls and is a defensive minded coach so it's a great fit.
"Honestly, things couldn't have worked out any better. I know Chin was a little stressed how things went down with SMU but to have this opportunity now at North Carolina, it's incredible how it worked out."

Chinedu Onyeagoro is ranked No. 516 in the country and the 48th-best edge rusher in the Class of 2025, according to On3. He is also the 40th top overall prospect in the state of California.

Chinedu Onyeagoro has a chance of becoming UNC's 10th signee

The Tar Heels have signed only nine prospects to the Class of 2025. Chinedu Onyeagoro can become the Tar Heels' 10th signee after flipping his commitment to them. He is currently a hard commit along with three-star prospects Jariel Cobb and Terry Nwabuisi-Ezeala.

Onyeagoro racked up 107 total tackles and 20.0 sacks while leading his team to a record of 10-5 in his senior year. He finished his high school career with 263 total tackles and 58.0 sacks.
