Four-star safety Hylton Stubbs flipped his commitment from the Miami Hurricanes to the Florida Gators' 2025 class on Monday. The standout from Mandarin High School in Jacksonville committed to the Hurricanes on July 4 but made a swift change following a weekend visit to Gainesville.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect grew up as a Gators fan, and Florida had consistently been a top contender in his recruitment. After spending time with the Gators on Sunday, Stubbs needed only a day to announce his decision publicly.
"After an amazing visit to the University of Florida yesterday, I have decided to decommit from Miami and commit to the Gators," Stubbs told Rivals. "The main reason for this decision is my belief in the football program and the incredible opportunity to compete for a national championship."
This is Stubbs’ second decommitment in less than a year. He initially committed to USC in March before reopening his recruitment in late June. Just a month later, he pledged to Miami, only to flip to Florida in December.
Stubbs will join his high school teammate and four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. Jones also flipped from Florida State to Florida last month after Mike Norvell fired offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins.
Stubbs has 54 tackles (eight for a loss), three forced fumbles, two interceptions, and four pass deflections. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, he is the nation's No. 58 overall prospect, the No. 4 safety in the 2025 class, and Florida's No. 8 recruit.
Hylton Stubbs credits Billy Napier for his commitment to the Florida Gators
Following three consecutive wins, Billy Napier’s staff has added 12 commitments to their 2025 recruiting class since Nov. 11. Four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou flipped from Texas on Sunday and four-star offensive tackle Tavaris Dice flipped from Auburn on Saturday.
With Hylton Stubbs' commitment on Monday, Florida continues its flip game. Stubbs cited Napier’s leadership as a key factor in his decision to choose Florida.
"Coach Napier’s vision, leadership, and genuine approach stood out to me, and I’m confident he’s building something special in Gainesville," Stubbs told Rivals. "I’m excited to play for a coach who prioritizes development both on and off the field. Go Gators!"
Florida's 2025 recruiting class consists of 23 commitments, including 11 in-state recruits. It ranks No. 11 in the nation and No. 8 in the Southeastern Conference.
