Four-star cornerback Kade Phillips, from Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas, flipped his commitment from Texas to LSU's 2025 class. It marks a big win for LSU, as the Tigers were among the top contenders for his pledge earlier this summer.
Phillips visited Brian Kelly's Tigers program in the spring and then again on June 14 for an official visit. He made an official visit to the Longhorns on June 21 and left with a huge impression.
"It went very well," Phillips told 247Sports. "Austin, I feel like it's a great city. A bunch of people, a bunch of things to do, and I mean really everywhere you're going to have to stay focused but I feel like it's a great place and a great area," he added.
Phillips committed to the Longhorns on July 6 and within less than two months, he now pulled off his pledge in favor of the Tigers.
The 6’1″, 175-pound prospect's athleticism is evident not just on the football field but also in track and field. He was a Texas 6A bronze medalist in the long jump, with a state meet leap of 23-11.5.
Kade Phillips is ranked by On3 as the No. 65 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 7 cornerback in the 2025 class and the No. 16 recruit in Texas. 247 Sports places him as the No. 233 overall prospect nationally, the No. 28 cornerback in the class and the No. 32 recruit in the state.
Kade Phillips comments on his commitment to LSU
Kade Phillips received offers from elite programs like LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas and Utah, among others. But LSU and Texas emerged as the primary contenders for his pledge.
“LSU has been on me ever since they first offered me,” Phillips told On3. “It was a little while once I committed to Texas with them still texting and calling me almost every day. The coaching staff was locked in with me even after I committed,” he added.
The cornerback also noted the significance of his potential development under Coach Raymond.
“I feel like I can really be developed into something big,” Phillips mentioned. “And being able to be coached by Coach Raymond is important. He really played a big part in my recruitment, never really losing hope or sight of me and calling me every day.”
Phillips becomes the No. 24 commit of LSU's 2025 recruiting class, ranking No. 3 in the nation and No. 2 in the SEC. He is the second cornerback commitment, joining five-star DJ Pickett.
The cycle also has five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, alongside other four-star prospects like Harlem Berry, Derek Meadows and Damien Shanklin.
Meanwhile, Texas' 2025 class now stands at 16 commitments, ranking No. 13 in the nation and No. 7 in the SEC, after losing Kade Phillips.
