Four-star defensive lineman from Lufkin High School Zion Williams has officially committed to LSU. Williams announced his decision to join the Brian Kelly-led program on Thursday.
LSU's defensive line coach, Bo Davis, and his team have had Williams as one of their top targets since joining Kelly's staff a few months ago. That heavy recruiting has led to the 6-foot-4 defenseman's verbal commitment to the Baton Rouge-based college.
Zion Williams chose LSU over other prestigious schools such as TCU Horned Frogs and the Texas Longhorns. The Texas native set his commitment date to July 4 after an official visit with LSU and decided to play for the Louisiana-based team.
The four-star recruit was one of the program's 13 commitments, as a lot of other elite prospects are expected to commit to the program in the coming days. Williams was ranked as the 366th-best prospect in the nation by On3 and the 31st-best defenseman in the country. He was also the 53rd-best prospect from Texas for the class of 2025.
LSU is the 11th-best program, according to Recruiting Team Rankings, and has 13 commitments so far. Twelve of the 13 commitments are rated four-star or above.
Zion Williams spoke about Bo Davis and LSU earlier this year
Zion Williams will play in the Tiger Stadium next season as he announced his commitment to LSU on Thursday through his social media. The four-star recruit from Texas was one of the most sought-after prospects in the nation and has finally committed to the Baton Rouge-based team.
Williams visited LSU's campus twice in the Spring and recorded an official visit at the beginning of June. LSU's defensive line coach Bo Davis played a major role in landing the coveted 6-foot-4 defensive lineman, and Williams had nothing but high praise for his soon-to-be defensive line coach.
"I feel like coach Bo had my best intentions and wants to get me to a position where I can support a family when I have one," Williams told The Bengal Tiger. "It meant a lot to me when he says that he thinks that I have 3-year potential, but I’ll get a degree before I leave. I feel like me and him are going to have a great relationship regardless if I play for him or not."
Other top schools such as TCU, Texas, Alabama and Baylor were also interested in acquiring Zion Williams' services.
