Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers have ensured a big addition to their 2025 recruiting class by securing the commitment of three-star cornerback Aidan Anding from Ruston High School, Louisiana.
His commitment represents a major win for the Tigers over the new SEC school, Texas, which seemed to be among the frontrunners in his recruitment earlier this summer.
Anding was scheduled to announce his decision at the end of June. But when LSU extended an offer on June 28, the recruitment scenario changed.
Anding made three official visits and one unofficial visit to Baton Rouge. The decisive moment came when he and his family attended the Bayou Splash event last month.
Less than a week ago, LSU's defensive back coach, Corey Raymond, managed to flip four-star cornerback Kade Phillips from the Longhorns. The Tigers also landed a commitment from five-star cornerback DJ Pickett, making Anding the third cornerback to join the 2025 class.
LSU now boasts five defensive backs in its 2025 class and Anding joins Pickett, Phillips, Jhase Thomas and CJ Jimcoily. Anding also becomes the 25th overall commitment for LSU in this recruiting cycle, which currently ranks No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC.
Aidan Anding shares the reasons behind his commitment to LSU
Aidan Anding chose LSU over Miami, TCU, Baylor, USC, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech. Texas and Arkansas were also strong contenders, but he ultimately decided to give his pledge to LSU.
The decision to commit to LSU was deeply rooted in Anding's connection to his home state.
“It’s special because I’m a Louisiana boy,” Anding told On3. “I’ll be more known in Louisiana. Me going to LSU, the best program, the best football program in Louisiana, me going in there playing for them will be easier to build my brand. Build a name for myself. And the support I’d have in football, I’m a Louisiana guy,” he added.
At 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, Anding is ranked as the nation's No. 401 overall prospect and the No. 37 cornerback in the 2025 class, according to On3 Industry.
He is also recognized as the No. 13 recruit in Louisiana. Another key factor in his decision was LSU’s track record of developing top-tier defensive backs.
“Looking at the history behind Coach Raymond and the guys he put in the league, I know he can develop me and put me in the league," Anding said. "I know my skill set and know my talents and what I can bring to the table.”
Anding competes in football, basketball, and track & field, earning Louisiana 2-5A First-Team honors. During Ruston's 2023 state Division I non-select championship, his 54-yard punt return helped secure the Bearcats' first state title in 33 years.
Ruston will kick off the 2024 season against Neville on Aug. 31.
