Wright's commitment comes after official visits to Baylor, Georgia, and Michigan before ultimately choosing to stay in his home state and play for coach Brian Kelly's program.

“I had a good time connecting with the coaches and the players around the (program). It was a good visit,” Wright said (via On3). “That (track offer) is big for me because I always wanted to experience that next level of track and racing some of the nation’s best. I would love to see how that would work out for me.”

Wright will join his Destrehan teammate Jhase Thomas, as well as four-star receivers TaRon Francis and Derek Meadows. Area recruiter Frank Wilson and wide receiver coach Cortez Hankton played a crucial role in securing his commitment.

"Over the past two weeks I've been talking to their staff and looking at their plan," Wright told Rivals "If you look at how they recruit in-state receivers, they come on late. You look at Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Malik Nabers, some of the best people that came through LSU."

Wright, who will start his senior season in a few days, also has an LSU track offer and he believes he can be the next "great thing" to come out of LSU.

"By committing to LSU, there's a whole lot of pressure off me. I can focus on my senior year and I think this will help a lot."

With Wright's commitment, LSU's 2025 recruiting class now boasts 21 players, including five-star prospects like quarterback Bryce Underwood and cornerback DJ Pickett. The class ranks No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC, according to On3's team rankings.

What does Phillip Wright III bring to LSU?

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 180 pounds, Phillip Wright III is known for his exceptional ability to stretch the field. Wright recorded a blazing 4.32-second 40-yard dash and clocked a 10.46-second time in the 100-meter dash.

According to 247 Sports scouting analyst, Gabe Brooks, Wright's speed is his most lethal weapon, and he can align at multiple receiver spots. His standout speed, described as "Olympic-level" by Destrehan head coach Marcus Scott, makes him one of the most dangerous deep threats in the nation.

As a junior in 2023, Wright helped lead Destrehan to an 11-1 record and a Louisiana Division I Non-Select state quarterfinal appearance. As a sophomore, he played a crucial role in Destrehan's 15-0 season and state championship victory.

Wright is ranked as the No. 49 wide receiver and the No. 13 overall recruit in Louisiana, according to On3.
