A video of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ highlights from high school was posted on Instagram on Saturday, stirring plenty of reactions from fans. Mahomes is shown in the video swinging passes with an energy and precision that fans have now become familiar with.
A fan on the platform, Harryfitzzz, made a joke about the quarterback’s style of play, commenting:
“Bro’s throwing motion was atrocious, and his pocket presence was horrendous.”
Mahomes’ body movement on the ball was the subject of another fan's joke, with Nserpa51 noting:
“It's like a drunk Uncle Rico back there.”
However, despite his unconventional style and body movement, fans were able to see that Mahomes got the job done. A fan, Joshuahoke_57, wrote:
“Brah his footwork and throwing motion sucks but it still gets it there.”
The ease with which Mahomes made his throws also did not go unnoticed. It was pointed out by a fan, Gutterguy805, who commented:
“He made it look so effortlessly on every throw now he has the refs on his side.”
Mahomes was not the only player who caught the attention of netizens in the highlights. One player at the receiving end of his passes, wearing jersey No. 10, was noted for his great ability, catching Mahomes’ passes and making runs.
Curious about who this No. 10 might be, Jsos1kk asked:
“Who is num 10 tho?”
Another fan, Imethannol, was more curious about what became of the receiver’s football career and where he is now, commenting:
“I wonder where dub is now.”
Replying to the post, a fan wrote:
"#10.. played in the cfl until deciding to walk away this year."
Looking back at Patrick Mahomes’ high school career
Patrick Mahomes was a multi-sport athlete in high school, playing football, baseball and basketball for Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. He had a terrific senior season in high school, passing for 4,619 yards and 50 touchdowns. He rushed for an additional 948 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Mahomes was a three-star quarterback out of high school and the No. 12 dual-threat quarterback in his class, per Rivals. He was recruited by Texas Tech, Rice and Houston, choosing the Red Raiders over his other options. The quarterback committed to the program despite being a top prospect for the 2014 MLB draft, where the Detroit Tigers selected him in the 37th round.
Patrick Mahomes was named the MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Year for 2013-2014. He has attributed his skills as a quarterback to his pitching practice and experience on the hardwood.
