Bronny and Bryce James, sons of NBA superstar LeBron James, often get compared to each other. This rang especially true when NBA insider Brian Windhorst appeared on the Dan Patrick Show back in 2022 and talked about the James brothers and who he thought was the better recruit.
The conversation started when host Dan Patrick asked the ESPN commentator how good was LeBron's son, talking about the older sibling Bronny, and Windhorst noted that he was "very good."
"um he's very good," said Windhorst. "He's going to be, uh, don't know if he's gonna go play in college. If he were to go play in college, he would probably get a high major offer. Whether he would be a star on that team, I don't know." (11:49-12:04)
He added that Bronny was also in a better physical condition than his dad at the same age.
"He s in tremendous physical condition, he is in better condition than his dad was at the same age because his dad never lifted a weight in his life when he was 16," Windhorst explained.
"This kid was having personal training, I don't know, when he was 10. So, he's done incredible work on his physique, he's very very conditioned but he is not the athlete LeBron was," he added. (12:08-12:30)
As for Bryce James, Windhorst admitted that he has never actually seen him play, but he said that there are people who think he might be a lot better than Bronny.
"There are people who told me that Bryce actually might be the better prospect amongst the two," he said. "Bryce, I think, is 13 or something like that. I don't know if we can go that far." (14:00-14:11)
There is some dispute as to how Bryce James actually ranks, as several sites, such as On3 and Rivals, see him as a three-star while ESPN sees him as a four-star.
Meanwhile, Bronny also had mixed ratings back in high school, with On3 listing him as a five-star while 247, Rivals, and ESPN place him as a four-star.
Tristan Thompson says Bryce James would probably play with his dad too
As for the question of whether Bryce James would be playing with his dad too, former Cavaliers star and LeBron teammate Tristan Thompson thinks he would.
“Look at how ‘Bron is playing, he could probably play another four or five more years. He might as well keep playing so he can play with Bryce," he said to cleveland.com in 2024.
“He’s going to end up doing it. He is. That’s what’s going to happen. All three of them are going to be on the same team," he added.
Thompson won his first NBA title with LeBron during his time at Cleveland.
